second display is black and white!!!

I have a huge problem. I used my new second display last Friday. Everything worked great. I havent touched it since. So, as always, before a Friday show, I set up to practice. Now my monitor only shows black and white. Does anyone by chance know how to fix this???? I have a show in 24 hours. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had this problem at "one" of my shows, but not others. It was the house TV, I used an RF adapter to fix that problem. Is it a "house" TV or your moniter? Also, check your RCA cord, if using one for crimps or loose ends. I always carry an RF adapter with me, in case of just this problem. If you are using coax, the connector there could be your problem.

I am using a s-video cord, and just bought it today. I think my problem is with the settings or something, because I hooked up the other laptop to it, and it works fine, the only problem being i dont have all the music in the other laptop.
By the way, I am using a Zenith 20in flat screen, it is a monitor or tv.
thanks

I had that happen once. One computer was fine but the other was b&w. After a lot of troubleshooting it turned out to be a bad svideo cable.
Why it was bad for one computer and not the other (identical computers) I don't know, but replacing it fixed the problem.

We think it is some setting on the video card, or the card is bad. Call the card manufacturer for their suggestions.

We had a similar problem with a Saphire Video card that after a few re-boots, it corrected the problem itself... no problem was found.

That's exactly what happened to me, at least twice, those little pins have a real tight tolerance and don't want to work in every slot for them.

I would agree that most likely the problem is the cable to the TV.

Also, you might try updating the drivers from the Manufacturers website as I have seen this happen before, due to a driver issue.

I Just wanted to let everyone know that to no avail, I still have the problem. Cords are new, drivers uninstalled and redone, Dell Technician was at my house and couldn't fix it. I'm screwed!!:?

what video card are you using ?? I have run into this a few times. and it was the settings on the g-force card. check your settings for TV. Bob

Had this problem after having to reinstall after a system crash.

At first I just thought it was the TV as I was having problems with the color on it before.

With the display attached:
  • Right click on the desktop
  • Select properties
  • Click settings
  • Click on the 2 in the display window to select the secondary display
  • verify the color and size settings
  • if these are ok click advanced
  • click the monitor tab and verify the display type is correct

Have the Dell Tech put a new Video card in the system, most likely the card has gone bad.

Cable is the culprit!

I have been following this thread because I had the same problem. I am going to get Hoster, but first I dowloaded the Demo and tried it. When it came time to hook the laptop (HP dv5150us) the display in the TV was B&W. I tried another computer (Dell) and 2 other TVs as well as an RF adapter to take the signal through the cable input of the TV. All gave a B&W picture.

The problem was that I was using a S-video cable that was splitting the signal into video (yellow cable) and color (black cable). This morning I paid a visit to the local MicroCenter and I got a s-video to single male RCA plug. The signal now is beautiful!

Hope this helps.

Thanks for this valuable fact BANDL!

Also, thanks to everyone working on this problem. The MTU.Community is working! :)

I actually think that the problem was between the monitor and the software. I switched to a different monitor and I don't have a problem. Now, I'm sure there is a solution to the monitor problem, but the show must go on, so I just fixed it for now. Thanks to everyone.
