Editing Song Database

Have a question on how the editing of songs work. I have spent days editing songs so they display correctly. Artist names and Song titles etc. I have Hoster on two computers. My home PC and my laptop. I have all my KMA files on an external hard drive. I do all the editing and converting CDG's to KMA's on my home PC. (Laptop CD Rom can't read CDG's). I use the laptop for shows.
My question is when I finish all the editing is this info embedded on the hard drive or is it just in the song database. If I connect the external hard drive to the laptop and do a Build Song Database will the changes show up or do I need to copy the Song database to the laptop? I searched the forum but could not find the answer.
Thanks in advance for your help.

If you have been editing them with Hoster then all you will need is a rebuild... HOWEVER.... you should delete your database file ("songs.mdb") FIRST. This is so hoster doesn't "skip over" tracks that are already in the database without making the corrections. Doing this forces hoster to read and import ALL of the track information from the kma headers.

When you then run hoster after that, it will automatically rebuild your database before starting.

Thanks C. Staley.....That answers my question. Gave it try and it works.

A little confused here.....? I have never deleted my songs.mdb from my show laptop as recommended by Staley to Fred, and it has always worked fine??

I simply take the hard drive and hook it up to the "other" laptop and rebuild database. Am I doing something wrong and need to be aware of something I haven't been. Or am I doing something right I don't as of yet know about?

Bryant,
If you are not having any problems with it building the songs.mdb correctly you will not need to do this, only if you have some issues when building. Songs not showing up or showing more than once.

files on 2 computers

Whenever I move kma files between my two computers (like load new songs on one computer and need to add them to the other), I always just bring over the songs.mdb file as well - everything stays in sync real easy that way too.

It will stay in Sync ONLY if the Folder Structure is the SAME on BOTH Computers.

nReel, what do you mean precisely by "folder structure".

mikedomi March 29th, 2006 02:13 PM

what he is saying is the hard drive must be named the same the folder names must be the same in both units

the songs mdb has the path where the songs are kept if you move it to another unit it is going to look for drive d for the kmas if that is where they were on the first unit then that is where it will look for the sec unit

you can not use the same songs mdb oh another unit if the kma are on a diff drive letter and if the folder you kept them in as a diiff name

in order to use the same songs mdb you must have apples for apples on both units

That's exactly what I do, gotcha. and thanx.

Bryant
