CDG color question

Admin,

Do CDG pictures use the same colors as lyrics (can they display 4096) or are they limited to 16 colors? I have seen many CDG "professional" discs that seem to only use 16 colors for their title screens / "mid-song" screens.

Just wondering,

Mike

They are limited to any 16 OF the 4096 colors. The only way that these colors can change "mid-song" is if the pallette is changed. Which is not an easy thing to do from a programming standpoint. Even then, you can't rely on the number of different decoders out there to properly display the colors you use.

It's hit-or-miss with graphics at best (unless of course you want to SAVE $5,200 and get the PRO System -- highly recommended)

Why do the colors get replaced?

I always thought that it WAS any 16 of the 4096, but I've seen a regular picture that had colors that were replaced.

There is a program called CDG creator that allows a user to create a .bmp and save it as a cdg file. If the 4096 was an option, then the picture would have looked more realistic than the one I saw.

Thanks anyway..

Got my answer by research

You can only use 16, but only certain 16, not out of 4096.

If you want to see what they are, open a picture in MS Paint, and save the picture as a 16 color bitmap. The color palette that appears at the bottom of the screen is the 16 that are available for a graphic.

Hope that helps other people too

Mike

P.S. If anyone has different info, and can prove me wrong, I'm all ears! :)

Not so!

I have used a program called "iPPlus" from Ulead Systems that has taken a full color photo and rendered it down to a 16 color bitmap that maintains the integrity of the photo. Whether it uses the actual 16 displayed by Paint, I'm not sure, however it's only 16 colors and it does a terrific job at maintain the overall "full color" appearance of the photo.

This is not used with a karaoke song, it's a "goodbye and goodnight screen" (with audio) that just sits on the TV while the audio plays and has a picture of my wife with a big "Thank YOU for coming, drive safely.... yadda yadda yadda...."

Please include a pic, C Staley

C. Staley,

Could you please attach a small pic to a reply, so I can see the quality of the pic? I'm curious to see what kind of colors you mean.

I checked Ulead, and did not see a program by that name. Maybe there's another one out there that works just as well.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Pretty decent picture

Pretty good! I just need to find a program that will let me do that too.

Thanks C. Staley! BTW, she's a QT! :)

Thanks!

I have tried that program, but the bitmap takes too long to display for my patience level. I know that another company makes a program that will do the bitmap, but I need to find a way of getting the "other" colors saved into a bitmap that the program will recognize ( Can't save orange, for example in MS Paint), but the colors that paint saves as 16 color are recognized by the program.

Thanks to all who have replied, BTW!

This thread tied up our website!!!

Sorry but I have to halt this thread for several reasons. One being that it took our site off the Internet!

I am disabling images in the site. If you want to transfer them, email directly to each other. I can't have the Forum take our site down.
