Crashing Question

I am having crashing problems in Hoster. This problem happens when I am using the drop down boxes. Sometime when I am scrolling through drop down boxes Hoster just locks up. I notice no one else is having this problem. I can uninstall and reinstall and it will go away for a while but then it comes back. This happens on both the show screen and the import screen. Is there something I can do to fix this? If this is not a software problem and a system problem what kind of system problem could this be? If I save my KMA files to a different hard drive and reinstall windows, when I put the kma's will they have the same book ID?

Re: Crashing Question

By the way here is some more info that may help to resolve this issue. I am running Windows XP Home w/ SP2. I have A Shuttle Motherboard FB5. I have 1 Gig of Ram. My processor is Pentium 4 3.01 Ghz. I have a Logitech cordless keyboard and Mouse. (I know that keyboard and mouse arent very important but I was just making sure.) And I have all the latest windows and driver updates. Thanks.

Blastenfrog,
The only thing that I could think of is if you didn't have all of the Windows Updates, but you state that you do.

Now when you say it is crashing, can you tell me exactly which drop down box it is or is it all of them? Also, if it is a Song name or Artist field, are there any '," characters in the names?

Re: Crashing Question

It has happened on brand drop down box on the import screen and it has also happened on the drop down box for the bookid on the show screen. Then the hour glass comes up and it freezes. You cannot even control-alt-delete and end the program. You have to turn the computer off to get hoster to work again. Other programs will still work after this freeze without restarting so windows is not freezing. THere is not a particular song or brand it has happened on a number of them.

Re: Crashing Question

sounds like computer is freezing up, not the program. Bob :?

Re: Crashing Question

No it is not the computer. As I stated ALL other programs continue to work after Hoster Freezes. So it is not the computer.

Yes they will retain their book id, just rebuild the database and you are good to go.

I'll throw out an idea, although probably a long shot.
Does it begin again after running some other piece of software? Possibly corrupting some file that hoster needs.

I once had a similiar problem with two pieces of software that used a .dll file of the same name and location. The one program would always mess up the other.

Just a thought.

Re: Crashing Question

Hoster and other MTU products is pretty much the only software on this computer. But sometimes I can just reboot open hoster and it happens without ever using any other program.

Re: Crashing Question

See what happens when you use the onboard Sound, as Mike stated above, it could be the USB sound card that is causing the problem.

Blastenfrog May 5th, 2005 02:06 PM

Re: Crashing Question

I am now using the onboard soundcard and it is still happening. But when Hoster freezes I can still uses any other program. It almost seems as if Hoster is having trouble getting to the files associated with the drop down boxes. Especially the Brand on the import screen. I think this will be an excellent program if I can ever get all these bugs worked out. It has never frozen when I am playing a song. Just when I am using the drop down boxes.:?

Re: Crashing Question

Try this install a printer on that unit and then try using the drop down box
and see if you if you still have the same problem .

Re: Crashing Question

I installed a printer and so far no freeze ups. Why does this work?

Blastenfrog May 5th, 2005 09:42 PM

Re: Crashing Question

Re: Crashing Question

Try a Wired Keyboard and Wired Mouse.

I think there is a delay in the wireless peripherals that may be causing Hoster some grief.

Let us know.

Re: Crashing Question

Did we take care of the problem with the drop down box
while you where playing a song ?

Play a song and use the search button did it work ok.

hoster used to need the print driver installed
not sure if it still does ?

if this does not work i'll have to think a little harder on this
please post one more time for me about your unit

all the spec. if you want you can pm them to me i'll take a look at them again

i'll see if there is something everyone else may have missed

good luck mike

Re: Crashing Question

I have already thought of the wired keyboard and mouse and it is the same with the wired as it is with the wireless. :f

What version of Hoster where you using, at the time of the crashing?

Blastenfrog May 23rd, 2005 04:58 PM

I was using 3.108. I found a solution though. I do not know why it works but if I play a song before I try to import the songs it never locks up. If I don't it normally locks up.
