Static in sound system

I have a real bad noise problem when I run
my projector to show the words on a big screen.
Last night when my power plug came unhooked
from my lap top it went away. When running on
the battery I had no proplem but when I hooked
it back to the power cord. It started the stattic
again. Is their a power sorce that I need to solve
this problem?
Thanks

Re: Static in sound system

any video you connect to your laptop can cause a ground loop
put a 3 proung to two
adapter and lift the ground and if still there put it on the laptop too this will take cake of your problem
i am 99% sure of it and if it is still there
it my be comming from the tvs hooked up to the laptop

sorry but this is just the way it is
when they put the ac in the club were you are at some were along the way they crossed the wireing and that is the cause

yeah, that is exactly right. Its called a 60 hertz hum, if you cancel the ground you should have no problems

Re: Static in sound system

Most female receptacles today are ground fault protected. That is they have one wide and one narrow slot. The pins on the male plug matches them. No liscensed electrician will wire them wrong. The same goes for the manufactures of the equipment that plugs into them. Therefore I wouldn't first blame the cause for the hum there.
The hum comes from the proximity of the units to eachother, and possibly from the metal cases touching another case, or a bad cable. The fact that when you are on battery and have no hum tells you that the source of the hum is the AC current. Not a necessarily a ground loop. It could be in the multiple receptable you are using. Are these with a ground?
Try pluging the laptop or the projector into another line to see if the hum goes away.

i've had the same problem, and when i plug my laptop into another outlet somewhere the problem goes away.

I had the same kind of problem last night. But no matter what I did I could not get rid of the noise. The noise was only on the music audio channel. Mic channels were uneffected. I tried eliminating the ground, and that made no difference. I also tried a new audio cable, with no change. The noise was so bad, that it was as loud as the music on some tracks and some it was louder. I was fighting the noise the entire night. The problem is I have another gig there on friday and I need a way to eliminate the noise.

g force next time that happins un plug the tv from the kj unit

and see if that does the trick
some time the bar tvs when you plug in to them that will cause a ground loop

a 3 prong to a 2 prong outlet cheeter. It works
great it took out the line noise. Good Luck

David,

That was one of the many different things I tried throughout the night. Nothing worked. One thing that was pointed out, was that projector screens could cause this and I do happen to be plugged into one. But I must be plugged into it or the club owner will have a hissy fit. I just bought one of those ground loop isolators from radio shack...hopefully that will help. All I can do is hope at this point.

if the projector has a cable tv pulg into it all so then try unpluging the cable from it
cable box's are one of the big problem when causeing ground loops

so get rid of the cable box and see if that will do it for you

Thanks for the info I will try it tonight.

MTUSUPPORT June 17th, 2005 04:32 PM

David,
The laptop that I use, the only way to get rid of the Noise is the 3 prong to 2 prong adapter from Radioshack, and it does work great then.

G-Force June 17th, 2005 11:30 PM

well I am at the gig right now, and the noise is now gone. I traced it to the projector tv, but there is nothing I can do about that. Removing the ground did nothing. But I did install the radio shack ground loop isolator which did remove the noise, so problem is solved. Thanks for the help guys!
