Re: When importing a CDG disc tracks Hoster crashes

I have experienced this too, but it usually is with rather beat up cdg discs, or if someone gives me an audio only cd. Hoster seems to freak out if it can't find the graphics and either locks up completely or throws error messages and shuts down.
Also SC discs seem to cause some minor problems too. Especially if they have that stupid "thank You for purchasing Sound Choice" screen that pops up when you load the disc. Even with a 3.0 GHZ pentium and a gig of ram, that **** pop up makes my music skip when it appears.

Re: When importing a CDG disc tracks Hoster crashes

You can turn off Autorun on the drive to stop this screen from popping up. If using XP the standard Drive Properties Autoplay option never seems to work. You can down load the Tweak UI program from:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx

It Does stop the auto Play option on CD's.

When in Doubt about any option and changing it "DON'T DO IT" seems to work best.

You can send a private Message if you have questions.

This also happened to me last Friday night with a brand new disc ( not copied). This was the first show after I upgraded directx to 9.0c. Seems to have worked fine before.

Re: When importing a CDG disc tracks Hoster crashes

Did you try to load the CDG like you would a KMA?
If so, I think that was the reason for the crash. A scratched CD just wouldn't play right.

Loading the CDG into a playlist is the way the program is designed to operate. It's good have a special list for this so you can set it to delete after playing, or do it manually.

Re: When importing a CDG disc tracks Hoster crashes

Am I the only one that thinks this is a real problem?
I think this is unacceptable. Even if the cause is a scratched or dirty disc, it SHOULD NOT cause Hoster to crash. I have had this happen to me numerous times and each time the program crashes while a patron is singing.
MTU Admin, please try to do something about this problem.
This is such a problem for me that I may stop using Hoster for my karaoke events. It's a shame because the rest of the program works so well. However, I can not run a show in which the program crashes on a regular basis.

Re: When importing a CDG disc tracks Hoster crashes

I have really been trying to get Hoster to crash by importing a cdg track while
playing and cannot get it to happen.

Really a stumper. I've used a badly scratched disc, and no problem importing.

This morning I took that same scratched disc and smeared Strawberry jam on it, let it dry, and tried to import a track while playing. Nothing but the "egg timer" appeared and just sat there trying to read then disc until after a time I got a message telling me to insert a disc.

Hoster did not crash and kept playing while this was going on.

Will keep trying to cause a crash if I can think of something new to try.

I used a singers disc's Friday and Sat nite at a show and it didn't crash. Both disc's were in bad shape with scratches and everything worked OK. I am using Hoster 3.006.

Please don't anyone else try this. I did it under very controlled conditions, a real thin layer, but thick enough to interrupt the reading, and well hardened.

Would hate to see anyone mess up their burner and have to kick out bucks to get the lens cleaned. I doubt a brush type cleaner would remove anything that dried hard on the lens, if some not dried would happen to splatter on it.

Re: When importing a CDG disc tracks Hoster crashes

I tried every variation of timing to import a track to see if I could make it crash this week end. I could never make the program completely crash. I did produce a result of the music playing and the graphics only partially appearing. The program didn't crash though. I just let the import finish and hit re-start on the song that was playing during the import, and it played the second time just fine. I'll keep playing with differ scenarios to see what I can turn up. :c

I concur that any crash is unacceptable. The problem here is that some are NOT expericing the crash as you are. Thus, it appears to be "system dependent", versus a hard bug in Hoster. This is VERY DIFFICULT to track down. :e :f

Until we can re-create the crash, we probably can't solve the problem. We will take a look at what is reported here and see if we see anything wrong in the code.

I have made this Thread "sticky" so it remains visible at the top of the Threads in this Forum. I'll change the Thread title to "ask" for more feedback... either having or not having the problem. Obviously we are looking for those who HAVE the problem. It may be Windows OS version dependent.

Post as much as you can about what is happening to help us diagnose the problem.

What version of Windows are you running? Windows 2000 or XP?

What Service Release version has your Windows been upgraded to? 2000 SR4? XP Home/Pro SR2?

What type of file you are playing when adding a CDG track from a Singers's disc will crash Hoster? Does it matter?

What version of Direct-X is installed (check it in Control Panel - System dialog?

Re: When importing a CDG disc tracks Hoster crashes

S.Parks,

Do you think they may have run into some MEDIA CLOG or MULTISESSION copy protected discs? I have none, so I can't test to see if that would cause a crash. I don't believe it would, a slowdown perhaps, but not a crash.

Even if that were so, it wouldn't explain what happened with a copied disc.

Re: Post if you crash when adding a CDG track from a Singer's disc

If you turn off Autorun does it still happen?
Do you have any other software loaded and running?
Can you start Hoster, Play a song and Import in a controlled enviroment (Non-show) and see if Hoster dies.
If it does not then start any other software that you use at your show 1 at a time and repeat the test.
Take a look at your "Task Manager" and see if there are any process that should not be there. If you to now know take a screen shot and send them in for MTU to look at. They may be able to help.

MTU as with any programs can not fix if they can not duplicate. Every bit of info that you can send will help them with the issues.

I am running a Laptop with XP Pro SP2 and all of the Windows Updates. Norton Systemworks 2005 running, and a bunch of other things. Importing using Hoster 3.006 I have no problems from an External Plextor USB PX-5224TA drive.

I am playing back .kma files in the Playlist, while Importing tracks from the CD. I have now imported 10 tracks from 2 different CD's and have not had a single glitch happen on my system.

My system is an MTU Rackmount system that I purchased from MTU in January. If this is a system problem then I need to discuss this with someone since I purchased this system from MTU.

It is running Window XP Home SR2
I am playing the KMA file from my rotation list.
It doesn't seem to matter what type of CDG I try to load from. It happens with custom made discs as well as purchased discs.

I will post more info as it becomes avaiable.

Re: Post if you crash when adding a CDG track from a Singer's disc

is everyone that this is happing to using directx 9.0c.
and if you are did it do this before directx 9.0c.

if this is the case
one of the big problem with directx 9.0c.
is that it does not act the same on every unit
everyone I have talked to who build units has ran it to this problem
new hardware and old

no one as of yet has pinned this down

the ONLY WAY TO PROVE THIS IS FOR THOSE OF WHO HAVE YOU directx 9.0c.
(just the ones who have hoster crashing all the time while importing disc)

TO REINSTALL WINDOWS WITH OUT directx 9.0c.
USE 1 VERSION BEFORE 9.0C

I think this will prove that hoster is not to blame

some people think it my lie with aspi and 9.0c
since most software people that write programs for use with a cdrom (playing and recording disc)
are seeing this the most.
thing are starting to point this way

don't have any real answers for you just things to try sorry

Well, I just finished another gig but this time the system did not crash.
I am at a loss as to what is going on.
My heart was in my throat everytime someone gave me a disc to load.
I'm sure the problem has not just gone away. It will return.

Re: Post if you crash when adding a CDG track from a Singer's disc

EXCELLENT WORK-AROUND!

i am having the same prob so here is what i did until issue gets resolved. all my singers know to give me there disks before i start my dance set. i play 2 dance songs between rotations so people that dont' sing can dance. i load all my singers songs from there disks in hoster durin my dance set that way if anything goes wrong no one is singin.
