Hoster Song Database

:? After upgrade 3.000 to 3.006 my search for song data base stopped working. I would get an error when trying to search for song or artist, as though the data base did not exist. Went back to 3.0 and it works ok. The reason for the upgrade was I have the Plextor 716. Please HELP :)

Re: Hoster Song Database

Did you, originally, install Hoster in a Folder that WAS NOT the DEFAULT Folder?

V3.006 does not allow you to change the SONGS Database destination Folder.

This happened to me. I always installed Hoster off the ROOT of the C Drive...like this:
C:\Micro Technology Unlimited\Hoster
and, my SONGS.MDB was located in:
C:\Micro Technology Unlimited\Hoster\Databases

So, when I installed 3.006, the SONGS Destination Folder was set to:
C:\Program Files\Micro Technology Unlimited\Hoster\Databases

Of course, when I opened Hoster 3.006, the program did not see a SONGS.MDB, in the newly established DEFAULT Database Folder, and immediately went into the Build Songs Database Mode.

Also, a DEFAULT SONGS Folder was created in the DEFAULT location of the Hoster program. So, Building the Songs Database, upon first opening Hoster 3.006, did not find any Songs to BUILD a DATABASE from as ALL my KMAs are located on the D Drive in a SONGS Folder: D:\Songs

So, in Hoster 3.006, if you haven't been using the DEFAULT installation Folder previously, once you try to OPEN Hoster 3.006, Hoster will AUTOMATICALLY try to BUILD a SONGS DATABASE. When this WINDOW pops up, CANCEL the operation. When you CANCEL the Operation, Hoster will OPEN.

If HOSTER doesn't OPEN FULL SCREEN, you will see a TAB on the TASK BAR, at the bottom. Click the "def001-new.hst - Hoster" TAB to make HOSTER MAXIMIZE. When HOSTER maximizes, go to TOOLS/BUILD SONGS DATABASE. When the BUILD SONGS DATABASE Opens, be sure to check and make sure your SONGS SOURCE FOLDER is correct before clicking the TAB "Build Songs Database.

After Building the Songs Database, Hoster should run correctly. Also, make sure that the SAVE TO FOLDER is correct, when you open the IMPORT Window, so that any newly imported songs get Imported to the CORRECT Folder where previously Imported KMA files are located.

Hope this helps,

Norm

I really appreciate MTU.Community members like Nreel! :g

That's what this Community is all about... helping each other.

I'm not MTUSUPPORT, but I do believe Nreel is on the mark here. The flexibility to create your Songs Database anywhere was a NIGHTMARE! :e :e :e

Folks had them everywhere. One day, I was working with one of our programmers on a new feature that added songs to the Songs Database. The code looked right... the KMA file appeared in the folder... but not in Songs Database? :? :? :?

Finally, I asked him to do a Windows Explorer search for Songs.mbd... and about 8 showed up! :e

We then checked, and he was somehow not even using the current Songs Database. We had just wasted 30+ minutes and lots of scratches on our head. :r

I consulted MTUSUPPORT, and he reported MANY users having problems with the Songs.mdb being in the "wrong" place.

We stripped the flexibility, forcing Songs.mdb to ALWAYS be where Hoster could find it... without pilot error... and ended a lot of confusion.

Your post here indicates we maybe, could have made it easier to upgrade to this version. :? :s

In Hoster 3.100 we are now working on, we had to add a new TYPE field into the Songs.mdb to support importing or converting .cdg, .bin, MP3+G and .zip files into .kma's and adding them to the Songs.mdb. Thus... we have to force a rebuild of the Songs.mbd. We hope we have done this transparent to everyone.

Also... in the Import screen, if you change the Save to Folder where your KMA files go, we now automatically add that folder path to the Build Songs Database Song source folder list window. That way, rebuilding will always pick up the folders your KMA's are in. :c

Let us know here if you still aren't using 3.006, and what you are seeing. I'd suggest you do a search for "Songs.mdb" and delete all of them. Then, in the Build Songs Database, make sure all folders are added that hold your KMA files. Then, click the Build Songs Database button in its dialog box to rebuild Songs.mdb.

Re: Hoster Song Database

why cant you create a command so when you rebuild song database, it searches your hard drive for all kma files ??

Re: Hoster Song Database

I never changed the destination song database folder since day 1. I tried to rebuild the datdbase on 3.6 after deleting song.mdb and removing from recycle. it will play songs if I use my hard copy book to look up the book id and insert it. to find songs. If I use hoster search, Book id/song or artist it gives me error "Too Few Parameters. Expect 1. (3061)" If I reinstall 3.0 it works fine with no rebuilding any database. My only reason for 3.6 is My plextor 716 installed when my old one went bad. I only need drivers I guess??? :?
