Hissing Problem

I have a Dell Laptop connected to a Mackie board and Mackie speakers. I have a huge hissing problem coming out of one of my speakers. I have the speakers daisy-chained and plugged into the right channel on the board. Any ideas?

Re: Hissing Problem

your problem is in the ground.

put a 3 to 2 plug adapter on the amp. you need to eliminate the third prong on the mackie amp power cord.

<>I use Mackie 1521 speakers with a Mackie DFX-6 board. I also use SRM 450 for smaller venues or as a monitor for singers. I had the same problem with the hissing sound.</> The solution I came up with was to purchase the Sound Blaster Extigy external sound card and connect my laptop to the extigy. Then I purchased a cable with a mini plug on one end and a left and right ¼” plug on the other end. Then I connected the cables from the Extigy (mini plug) to the Mackie board (1/4” left and right). I then connect my Mackies to the board. I recommend connecting the Mackie speakers to the left and right channels as opposed to daisy chaining the speakers. The sound is excellent.

(Mackies do rock!!!!)

I have a Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop and cured the problem by putting a three to two adaptor plug at the end of the laptop power cord. This resolved the problem immediately. Good luck. :)

No you said, you need to eliminate the third prong on the mackie amp power cord. I said eliminate the earth on the laptop, it does make a difference. Lets not argue I was only trying to help.

the amp is not the problem it is most likely the laptop

Re: Hissing Problem

First off I want to thank everyone for their input! I got the problem resolved. Here's what I did.

I have 2 Mackie SRM 450's connected to a Mackie DFX-12. I have them daisey-chained and only one of the speakers was hissing. I added a 3 to 2 prong adapter to the laptop first. That took away about 80% of the hissing. I then added another 3 to 2 prong adapter to the one speaker (self powered) that was the problem. That took care of the other 20% of the hiss!

This message board is the greatest! I am one happy camper! Thanks all!
