Noise on playback with my own Laptop

I have found that some songs come out very loud while with others I have to turn the volume all the way up. Unless I am doing something wrong. Here is my setup:

Monarch Computers Hornet Pro Small Form Factor Computer @ 2.8 GHz

1 GB Ram
160 GB Hard Drive
Sound Blaster Audigy 2
ATI Radeon 9600
Dell 15 inch Flat Panel monitor
Plextor 52x CD-RW drive
Amplifier-Yamaha EMX 660

The amp gets more background hum than I would like. I am running a 1/8 mini plug cable from the SoundBlaster Audigy 2 sound card (green connection) into a ¼ to 1/8 mini adapter then plugging this into one of the ¼ instrument inputs. I am not happy with the volume but it is better in this input then trying the AUX or one of the HI-Z or Line in connections. Is it possible to get an adapter to go into the Lo-z connection and will it make any dirrerence? Would a line conditioner get rid of my background hum or do all amp’s put out some hum? Please post back here [email deleted to block spammers].

Last but not least if you are expecting the same sound quality as using the disc and your karaoke player, there is a very BIG difference.

Re: Hoster Works to Good!!

alot of laptop users get hum because of grounding issues. eliminate the ground and it will kill the hum completely. or get an ebtech hum eliminator

You can get a 3 prong to 2 prong converter for the Laptops, I know, from Radioshack that works great. I am not sure how it would work with the Portable type PC, but I use one on my Laptop, and it makes a night and day difference.

Here is the Link to the Radio Shack page: http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...t%5Fid=61-2720

In addition to the two /three prong adapter, make sure you are not connected to cable TV. Where I KJ, I have a 13" screen on stage for the singers and I am also connected to a larger screen up behind me that is for the audience to see. I have to make sure that the cable is disconnected from that TV or I get a loud hum also.

Dittos on that last comment! I've got the same setup as Kelly, and for some reason if you connect the video out of your karaoke machine to a t.v. that's also hooked up to cable, you get a terrible ground loop that's really annoying.
As Kelly said, just unscrew the cable wire from the cable input on the t.v. set
and voila! the noise is gone.

Re: Hoster Works to Good!!

I went with a M-Audio 1010lt sound card that is designed for studio recording and sound play back in Stereo or mono only not a gamers card. I am hoping this will give me the sound quality that is close to the Disc's less what I lose for KMA compresion at 192 Kps.

The other Thing about this card is it has 10 inputs and 10 out puts, 2 of the inputs are XLR with mic pre-amps and 6 inputs are RCA, with the right program it makes a real nice Digital 8 Tr. Recorder.

I Use a Shuttle Computer with an Audigy and used to get the Buzz, But Now I use upto 16 Screens with Video Switchers and as I go through a Video switcher (To switch to Music Video in Between Songs) and also Video signal Boosters I find that this obliterates all Buzz and sound and Vision is Crystal Clear, I use an Apache Power amp and Peavey Series 2 Speakers 6 of and the Sound is absolutely Wicked.

I went through 3 sound cards before I found one that did a good enough job. I finally settled on an Echo Indigo 2 channel. They go into the card slot on the lapptop and work great for DJing. Sound Quaity is much better than Sound Blaster and more convenient too.

Background 'hum' is easy to eliminate by using a shielded audio cable -- works 100% of the time! -- 1/8" Stereo to XLR (M)

This works w/ laptops and w/ desktop computers --

I went to a car audio store and bought a ground loop isolator to eliminate the hum.
Works great and only $10.00 Australian.
