Saving the Rotation upon a crash
One of the selling points of Hoster is that if your PC crashes during a show, or freezes up, you can reboot, and Hoster will have saved the rotation so you don't have to remember it.
The last 2 times my PC has crashed during a show, the first 5 songs in the rotation get saved, and the other 25 songs are the same as the fifth song. Example.... Symphony of Destruction - Paul Love Song - Steve Carry On Wayward Son - Roger Hello It's Me - Laura Hard to Handle - TJG Sister Golden Hair - JJ Sister Golden Hair - JJ Sister Golden Hair - JJ Sister Golden Hair - JJ Sister Golden Hair - JJ Sister Golden Hair - JJ Sister Golden Hair - JJ Sister Golden Hair - JJ Sister Golden Hair - JJ Sister Golden Hair - JJ Sister Golden Hair - JJ Sister Golden Hair - JJ You get the point. What's happening here? |
Re: Saving the Rotation upon a crash
MTU.......do you have any suggestions for this?
If not, let me know, please. |
Re: Saving the Rotation upon a crash
first of all
you should be asking why is hoster crashing at all this program is very close to rock solid as far as crashing during a show 1) what is happing before hoster is crashing 2) what else is running with hoster at the same time 3) at what point is hoster crashing 4) is hoster crashing at the same place all the time 5) do you use this unit to browse the internet 6) are there any virus on this unit some thing sounds very wrong here with your unit if your set up is right and you are not trying to run a whole bunch of programs while you are doing your show and you have enough memory hoster should not crash at all I don't think this is hoster I think this is your set up something is going on inside your system that has nothing to do with hoster tell us about you unit all your info on your set up and run your antivirus to see if you have something that should not be there ps if you are using this to browse the net I would not do this any more you are running a risk of some very nasty things that could happen to your set up if hoster was crashing on me twice a night or twice in any night i would be looking very hard for the fix |
Re: Saving the Rotation upon a crash
I have personaly not had a crash since 3.0 went out. I guess it depends on why and during what, that it crashed. that is what causes the kind of playlist error you had. maybe it would be a good thing to do a save of the playlist after you make a bunch of entrys, just to be safe. It would save a bunch of typing.
Maybe you will get a comment from Brian on this. |
Re: Saving the Rotation upon a crash
gduns
if he finds out why he is crashing in the first place that may be why hoster is not saving the list hoster cant save the list if some thing is stoping hoster from working in the first place if some thing is happing to stop hoster from saving the list in the first place dont you think like a lack of memory???? may be. by the way i found what you were looking for !? |
Re: Saving the Rotation upon a crash
Tymzend,
You can add the songs to the Playlist, and then durning Playback click the X to close Hoster and then reopen it and they will all be there. Even if you didn't save. So there is something going on on your system, such as Mike asked, that is causing this. I have not had any other clients report anything like this happening in Hoster. It is pretty much Rock Solid, at its current state. |
Re: Saving the Rotation upon a crash
Actually it happened to me a couple of days ago.
I was going to try and duplicate it before I posted anything, basicly I was moving a song up the playlist when one song ended and/or the next song began at that point hoster stopped responding and I had to use taskmaster to end it, so i could restart hoster. After restarting, most of my playlist changed to "seven bridges road" (approximately five down- though I didn't count) and all the instances of that song - about 5 or 6 - had a time duration listed as 2 seconds. I went a head and played one, it ran out the two seconds and then reset the time and ran outto the actual time remaining. This is the first time in over a year (and several upgrades) that hoster has crashed. Sam |
Re: Saving the Rotation upon a crash
Hoster is not crashing 2 times per night. Sorry if I gave that impression. It's crashed probably 3 times in 3 months.
Maybe crash is the wrong word. Mindonstrike's post is exactly what is happening to me. Hoster will stop responding (graphically). The music continues, but the swipes stop, and you have to get out of it. I usually reboot just in case there was anything goofy going on with the PC. Hey, maybe it's just one of things that I'll have to deal with that other people don't. It's not a PC that surfs the net. The PC is clean as a whistle. It's an MTU PC. I was just wondering why the entries that we had typed in the playlist weren't automatically saving if something happens. We'll just have to save it manually from here on out. Thanks for the input. At least I know that I'm not the only one who has had this issue, regardless of what the cause is (I'm not saying that it's Hoster's fault, it very well could be the PC). I believe now that it's probably not something that's unique to only MY PC. |
Re: Saving the Rotation upon a crash
No your not the only one there has been other reports of this
no one as of yet has been able to put there finger on it if we could get it to do it all the time then tehy could find a fix but as of yet i have not herd of anything this thing with the music playing and no video has been reported defore but no one has been able to dupe the problem |
Re: Saving the Rotation upon a crash
It's definitely not a game breaker, just a little inconvenience.
Maybe someday a fix will pop up, and we'll be in good shape. Thanks for the input. |
Re: Saving the Rotation upon a crash
I have noticed that when Hoster Crashes it is normally do to Hoster thinking that multiple songs have been selected. (Two songs highlighted in blue at the same time). I have not fugured out how it allows this or what causes it but I every time it has crashed I know the song I had selected was high lighted and another song was also high lighted.
Moving a song in the play list and having another song start at the same time may auto highlight causing the crash. I am now carful to make sure I don't have multple songs highlighted and I have not had a crash since. |
Re: Saving the Rotation upon a crash
We found and fixed a bug where pressing Shift + the up or down arrow keys would select multiple files. Then it would crash sortly thereafter.
This was fixed in 3.0. What Hoster version are you folks running that see multiple songs selected? |
Re: Saving the Rotation upon a crash
admin i have 3.001 and it will not select more then 1 at a time
i can ot use ctrl/shift /arrow it will only pick 1 this way |
Re: Saving the Rotation upon a crash
I,ve got 3.0, however I don't recall having more than one song highlighted. I was moving a song in the playlist when one song ended and the wait period began for the next, so perhaps that how/why more than one was selected.
A bigger issue (although more of a nusance than anything)for me is the fact that my playlist was totally screwed up when i reopened hoster. Sam |
Re: Saving the Rotation upon a crash
GREAT NEWS! Nreel, one of our beta testers, has isolated how to cause this problem and it is repeatable!
We were ready to release Hoster 3.002 for final beta testing tonight, but I'm holding off to fix this bug before we release. It's one that has been lurking for some time now. We ALWAYS prefer to fix any bugs we can as soon as we can. We must re-create the problem to fix it. Now we can fix this one... we hope!!! :w |
Re: Saving the Rotation upon a crash
hey admin,
ive been here since sept 2002 please tell me where to look for updates when they come available. ive made this pointg to MTU before about updates and never got a real answer. how hard is it to mass mail all MTU clients and let them know there is a new version?? you have everyones email address. just curious |

We do mass mail when a new release is available when there is an upgrade price. However, when it is a free upgrade, I guess we do expect you to discover this at the Home Page. You should always watch the News page. It's very clear when a version is released. Also, we always update the Upgrades version page for a new released product. That lists all the changes from the prior version. For Hoster, this is found at this page, which I will be updating shortly. :w We stared testing 3.002 tonight. We found several bugs related to this lockup problem and fixed all of them. We are on target for release. |
