Windows Media Player starts when inserting CDG disk

It is very irritating to have the Windows Media Player start when I insert a CDG into my Plextor unit. It does this on several insertions when first starting Microstudio. I hit stop in WMP and leave the program active but minimized. It then does it again several times before it never does it again (until the next time I start MS). This wastes a lot of time and is so irritating.

How can I prevent this from happening?

I tried to delete a file association in Windows but Windows will not allow the line to be blank. It requires "some program" to be entered there. There must be another way to prevent WMP from starting but have no idea what.

Thanks.

it must be set as your default player, and it should not be , change that see if it works. Bob :)

Re: Windows Media Player starts when inserting CDG disk

waynec,

Open MY COMPUTER.

Right click on a drive.

Right click on PROPERTIES.

Click AUTO PLAY.

Uncheck the PROMPT ME EACH TIME TO CHOOSE AN OPTION.

You'll need to do that with each drive. If you want that prompt when not using Microstudio, just turn them back on by checking the PROMPT ME....box.

Hope this helps.

Re: Windows Media Player starts when inserting CDG disk

I am using Windows 98 and the option "auto play" is not shown there.

Also note, I do NOT want ANY player to automatically launch when inserting a disk.

Thanks.

Re: Windows Media Player starts when inserting CDG disk

There is a way to go into 98 and turn off AUTO INSERT NOTIFICATION. Perhaps you can seach the forums while I play with my other p.c(98SE) and see if I can remember how.

Re: Windows Media Player starts when inserting CDG disk

Got it.

Open Control Panel

System

Device Manager

Open CDROM

Right click on a drive

Settings

Uncheck AUTO INSERT NOTIFICATION

Do that for each cd/cdr drive.

It is recommended with 98/98SE that this be off anyway to keep from possible interference when copying cdg's.

Take care,

George

Turned off "auto insert notification" for the Plextor. Did not help. WMP still started upon CDG insertion.

Re: Windows Media Player starts when inserting CDG disk

I just double checked and it works here on my 98SE.

I went in and checked the block, rebooted and the WMP came up automatically when I inserted a cd.

Went back in, unchecked the block, rebooted the pc and it is turned off. Nothing happens when I insert a cd.

Are you using 98 or 98SE?
Are you being prompted to reboot after you uncheck the block and exit? I don't remember if that prompt existed in 98. The change does not take place until you reboot.

Beyond that...I've no ideas.

Oops. Forgot to reboot. Made the change while copying, then forgot to reboot. Sorry. Thanks.
