Drives do not read CDG

Just purchased Hoster 2.127 and did not know my drives would not read / write CD-G. I have a very new TDK840G external DVD recorder on my laptop that is running Hoster.

I also have an TDK CDRW161040X internal on my desktop PC. I was not looking forward to buying another CD or DVD drive. Will either of these work with Hoster?????

Re: CDG Burner

Tom,

Your best bet of course is to purchase a certified CDG burner from MTU. You'll know you're getting a quality certified product.

As to the brand of CDG burner you currently have, I don't know if it will work. My guess is that it will not. If you want to be sure, download the latest Microstudio Demo Version and follow the directions to test your drive.

Tom,

Be careful also when searching for a cdg compliant burner. I got burned by Acer. They advertise their burner as able to do Karaoke. It does, but not CDG. It is formatted for VCD. After a month of haggling with their support people who didn't know any different, I found that out when I got to talk to one of their engineers.

I told him that consumers thought in terms of CDG when it came to Karaoke(this was three years ago), and their advertising needed to be changed. I was told very pointedly they were within their legal rights because their burner did work with a form of Karaoke, and they would not change their advertising, and did not nor would they ever support CDG.

You should have no trouble guessing what he said when I asked him what they were going to do about mine....nothing.

Luckily when I ordered the burner through a local shop, I specified I wanted a CDG compliant burner, so they ate it, not me.

Be specific, if you deal elsewhere, regarding CDG is all I took the long way to say. Karaoke is too broad a term.

Play it safe as Gary advised, and buy an MTU CDG certified burner. That's what I wound up doing, and have done ever since, and with no hassles.

Take care,

George
