help getting started

I have a 8200 series dell computer with a cd /dvd rw. I would like to read and burn cd+g discs. I still have some warranty on my computer so I am thinking exterior unit. What do I need?
Thanks,
Paverman

Plextor

My best suggestion would be to buy a Plextor and I don't see why you would have a problem with the warranty?

I have a Dell & installed different parts and needed tech support one day and never had problems.

if you're not certain you might want to purchase the Plextor burner thru Dell parts?

Further to mlpine's advice
I would only buy a Plextor. anyway the newer MTU products only seem to write Plextor into their programmes.
I looked on Ebay but there's nothing there.
Try the UK site, a number offered, some are external, which is what you would want.
Of course check out carriage if you ever decide to buy.
I've just bought a CPU from the US, even with cariage and customs it was still cheaper.

Plextor

Any CDR-RW from Plextor will work if you have the latest version of Microstudio or Hoster. Only one model of DVD-RW won't work & I can't recall which one it is?

Why not order it from MTU? They test each one they send so you'll get a drive that really works with cdg.

I wouldn't worry for the warranty, if you don't feel capable of doing the installation you might want to ask someone who's capable?
An internal model would cost you less...

Sorry I have read so many threads I thought you had a laptop.
mlepine is correct internal drives are cheaper and are really easy to fit, even for a novice.
Just make sure you anti-static yourself before handling and fitting.
I use a length of copper wire around my wrist and fastened to the casing of my computer.
