Substitute Database File

I am certain that if MTU allows me to do this, or if it is even possible, this would be a specialty thing and they may not want inexperienced computer users to try.

Here is what I want to know:

Can I replace the database file that is provided with HOSTER with my own?

Here is why I want to do it:

I have upwards of 900 disks now. I buy every week and the numbers just keep growing. Since I bought hoster, I haven't had the time between shows to copy disks. For every 10 I copy, I add 20. See my delema?

There has been a lot of problems with using the default title/artis/disk numbers from hoster since I started. Now, instead of just popping in a disk, selecting the SIMPLIFIED disk number and archiving, I am also having to check every disk and track to what hoster claims the title is.

I usually input the titles manually. For example, if I had a showtune, I would put "Show: Phantom Of The Opera" (ommitting the quotes).

I don't buy Sound Choice, Chartbuster or any other brand of disk in a series (i.e. Foundation Disks 7000-?) I buy them as people request the songs. If I could use my master database and instead of having to say SC8500 to find my disk number 849 when I go to import it, that would save me a lot of time. THEN I am responsible if my database for singer's books and hoster's title bar are wrong.

Thanks

Hi!

I do really understand your problem. I felt the same way a couple months ago. I found that there wasn't a simple awnsear to provide a good workaround.

I'm not in USA so most of my titles aren't on the database. Also I did want to use the song titles and singers names entered on my own way and I do had my complete list in an Excel file.

The way I did was to export my complete database, mainly with Excel and then respecting the structure and rules of the Bucket database created my own Bucket DB using Jet Access.

Then I use it to import my complete set of discs, about 900 too.

After that I rechanged my DB to the original DB (I know I don't need it but I wanted to try) and voilá, all is working.

I'm now preparing a small routine to add more titles when I buy new discs.

I must stress that this procedure is not supported nor, as far as I believe, wellcomed by MTU.

I did that to my own risk and well, what can I say, it worked for me and solved my problem. Now I consider Hoster a perfect product and I want to send my congratulations to MTU for it.

Hope that helps.
