Best speed to copy CDG's?
 

I have a plexwriter 48/24TU and a friend said it's best to set speed at 1X to make back up copies. But it is taking a LONG time and I have lots of copies to make. What is the fastest speed that will work and give me good copies? Thanks

There used to be a school of thought that slower is better, but with the advent of better burner and media technology that's not so anymore.

A lot will depend on the quality of the media you use. If you bought through MTU, or are using a comparable quality media, you can burn cdg's as fast as you wish up to 52X (depending on the burner). I burn at 48X with my 48/24/48 Plextor and never have any problems.

I also take an extra precaution and clean each blank disc before burning.

You may even find in some instances that "glitches" that were on the original will not be on the copies when burned at fast speeds.

Faster the better
 

No question in my opinion that the faster the better.

You should burn at the maximum speed that the Media will say, the quality of the Media is what matters.

Good brands would be the ones MTU are selling but will not burn at 48X or TDK which will let you go up to 48X with an excellent graphic & a much better sound at 48X versus 1X.

Try to avoid the Home brands, Memorex (Poor Sound), the Silver Maxell. I found the Maxell Pro to be excellent on sound quality (goog for mastering) & also Fuji (still made in Japan) to be excellent.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my question. I am now burning at 48X and they sound and look great. And it's only taking me about 3 or 4 min. per copy!!!!!!

My experience has been let it fly. Plextor has gone through a lot of trouble to make a writer that will do this, adn trust me it will handle the speed. Tell your friend to update their burner a couple of years. Good Luck!:w
