Audio skips and/or repeats

I have a Realtek AC97 soundcard, and for about the first 10-15 seconds on most songs the audio skips or repeats. Is this a common problem? Can you help me to fix it?

I had a similar problem. This program uses a huge amount of microprocessor time. It was greatly improved in one of the changes but I'm sure it is still quite high. The solution was this: Turn off any programs that might be running in the background, such as virus detection, monitoring or messenger programs, or troubleshooting programs. I'm sure there are many other possibilities I'm not thinking of so just do this. Simultaneously press the ctrl, alt, and delete bottons. This will show you any programs that are active.

What speed is the computer? Also, this sound card is built on the motherboard, so it may not have enough processing power built into it, as a PCI card such as a Sound Blaster Audigy or something similar.
