Rename or convert .bin to .cdg
 

I along with others may have been introduced to [another program] before MTU. I have lots of songs on my hard drive in .bin file.

Can someone tell me in simple terms, as I am a newbe, how I can convert from .bin to .cdg files. Thanks for your help and lets all have fun!!!

just change bin to cdg in the file extension
 

You just change the file name ex., (newyork.bin) to newyork.cdg
and it will work with MTU just fine, assuming it was extracted properly by [another program]. I had the same situation as you, and just did it and it worked.

Changing file names: 1. right click the file name in windows explorer. 2. choose the function rename

The entire file name will be highlighted. If you want to completely change the name, just start typing your new name with a ".cdg" extension. That will completely delete the file name and leave you just with what you type. If you only want to change the "bin" to "cdg", do 1 and 2 then move your cursor with the arrows and the mouse and type and delete as needed.

does not work on windows 2000 pro.

What Doesn't Work
 

On Windows 2000 is it the procedure for changing file names that doesn't work or the files that don't work after you change the names???

I saw Danny-g's entry and I wanted to remind myself about what worked, since I originally did this stuff a long time ago. I extracted a bunch of files using [another program] I changed the extension and did some MTU things. I did Keyrite, and made an audio cdg disc. I'm not saying that the quality was this way or that way, but in my quick run through, I didn't notice any problems.

So I am very intrigued by Danny-g's entry. I echo jahern's question about what exactly didn't work??????

Make sure windows is showing the filename and extension. In Windows Me, go to control panel -> folder options-> view. It is a checkbox about 8-10 lines down that says "Hide file extensions for known file types" If this is selected and you try to rename the file you end up with a filename of yourfilename .cdg.bin

Not sure if it is the same in other versions of Windows or not...
