The difference in Drivers
 

I have been using the plextor usb burner without any of the
drivers that can be downloaded from mtu. My computer has 6
usb ports and firewire. I have an atapi burner already installed in
my computer.

I think I missed something in the manual. What is the
difference between the mtu driver in the program, and the default driver. I have been using the mtu driver but I see a lot
of people being advised to use the default driver. I am thinking that this is one of the problems with error reports when I am burning.

This just uses either our ASPI Driver or the Adaptec ASPI driver. Sometimes the Adaptec driver will work better, thus the reason I recommend it in certain situations. You can download either from: http://forum.mtu.com/showthread.php?threadid=493

I think that plextor manual says that it uses the adaptec driver,
as will as the atapi burner that is already on my computer. What
can your aspi driver offer that is different than the adaptec? I am
trying to understand the differences between the two: to know
which one is actually better. Thank You

This is hard to explain. The only program that will use our drivers are our Hoster and Microstudio. So these will have no affect on any other driver.

I would install them both if I were you, and see which one works the best for you.

Here are the error messages that I get after buring about 3
cd+g's.

write command failed on device 2:0:0
unexpected aspi error (oo4 oh ooh)

and
write command failed on device 2:0:0
insufficient resources for driver etc...

I have seen other types of error messeages in the forum, but
they were different with the type of error reported. Thank You

This may or may not help you find your current problems, but here it goes...

“WRITE' command failed on device 2:0:0"

That message "almost" always refers to a “Buffer Underrun Problem.” which means the data you are trying to write IS NOT being fed from your Hard Drive to your CD writer fast enough.

Although you may have “a burn proof technology” burner, even then, there are other factors which STILL can create buffer underrun problems:

The main usual suspects are other programs running in the background such as:

• anti-virus scanners
• a firewall
• email managers
• internet browsers
• screen savers
• auto insert notification
• spy checkers
• download accelerators and any number of other software.

95% percent of the time, you can solve the problem AND burn cleanly by lowering your writing speed to 6x or lower.

If you were to try this solution and you find that you are burning okay, then you will have to identify the offending software and shut it off from running on the background.

If you are running on a laptop, then make sure you are using a power supply when burning because the "Power Management" within Windows XP may cause this error at a higher speed.

As a final note, if you can zip up your cdburner-log.txt file and posted at the Forum we can take a look at it and advice you further

THANKYOU! For confiming what I kind of already new, but wasnt
sure of. I have seen other people complaining about error messages that shut down the burning process. Usually it
it gets dissmissed as driver problems or whatever. Windowsxp
and auto-notification are real pain. I have everything from anti-
virus to firewall, but finding the right one is hard. Where
exactly can I find the cd-burner.txt file? Once I understand that
the problem is really just part of the operating system and that
there really isn't much that can be done except for de-activating most of my software, I can kind of live with the errors. Yes,
slowing down the speed helps, but I get real impatient.
