Delays

A little over a month ago, the Hard Disk Drive on my wife's laptop failed, with the only copy of Hoster on it. About eighteen days later, it was replaced with an SSD. A few days later, I sent a 'help ticket' to MTU asking what we should/could do, having lost the drive with Hoster installed. after several days without a reply, I decided to pay for an upgrade, as my wife wanted her karaoke back.

The 6+ year old laptop now has a 120GB SSD, Intel Core i3 CPU, M350 2.27GHz Processor, 64-bit OS & 4GB RAM. Before the HDD fail, it was running Windows 7, but the Tech guy who replaced the drive, upgraded it to Windows 10, which I wasn't happy about. This new OS now seems to have deleted the "Windows.old" file, so without paying AGAIN, we can't get back to Windows 7.

We now find that Hoster will not run properly, with long delays loading being the issue. While starting up quickly, it's taking a minimum of seven minutes to load a playlist (a few dozen files). Then when clicking to play a song, there is a delay of at least ten minutes (the song files are on an External HDD). which makes using the program intolerable. I decided to try downloading and installing an older version "Hosterlite 422.8" to see if I could get that running better, but both the current and previous Registration Codes were rejected in the installation process.

Please help with resolving these problems as this is my wife's only entertainment/relaxation outlet that she enjoys.

How much free space do you have left on your 120GB SSD drive ?

Does windows media player play OK ?

I have the latest version of Hoster running on my Samsung Ultrbook that has a 128GB SSD drive and recently updated that to Windows 10 and it runs OK although I had to update my graphics driver and Catalyst driver. So it may have something to do with one of your hardware drivers not compatible with Windows 10.

Thanks for your reply Roy :)

The SSD is newly installed & there's nothing on it, other than the OS & Hoster. I'll check shortly to see if Windows Media Player works. I'll also go to HP's Support page to find out if there's any Drivers that can be updated. I'll post the results of what I've found and whether I have any success.

UPDATE;

Windows Media Player is working fine.

Windows 10 doesn't seem to give users the same control over updates like Windows 7 did, but I've checked for any Software or Driver updates for this laptop model running Windows 10 & there were none. I checked also via Device Manager & all seem to be up to date.

Re: Delays

Before doing anything, use the Hoster Menu Help/Backup/Restore and create a backup of Hoster settings in case you need to restore.
Just to try and elimenate any external hard drive and existing playlist problems.
First of from your file menu select "New", this should leave you with an empy playlist, now using the search button or disc id option on main display load 1 track to the playlist and test to see if it plays OK without the long delays, if it does load about another 20 tracks
and test again.
If they play Ok using a new playlist then there must be something about using an old playlist that is causing it.
If you still get the slow problem delete all the files from the playlist and this time use the k-oke button and brows to the music folder and load some that way and test again.

If you still get the slow problem create a tempory folder on your C/ drive and copy & paste about 20 of your karaoke files into the tempory folder.
Now start another new playlist from the file menu, Now try using the K-Oke button and brows to the tempory folder on your C/drive and load 1 of the tracks to the playlist then see if that plays without the long delay, if it does load another 20 or so tracks via the K-oke button and test again.
If the problem persists then I'm baffeld at this point but if they play Ok from the C/drive then there seems to be a problem with the external drive.
Let us know how you get on after these tests.

Re: Delays

As Roy has stated, can you please give us the feedback on the test's he has asked for?

I myself have never seen this issue either, I am guessing there has to be some type of setting or something not correctly set on the SSD drive, but I am not aware of any that "should" be set either.

Also another option, click on the Bookid button, and change it to Brand to see if that makes any difference on the Playlist in Hoster.

This will allow it to boot faster for sure.

I use the software with about 140k songs (mostly audio) on an external drive in 3 different Win 10 tablets without any issues.

Re: Delays

To Roy & Bryan, thanks for your further suggestions. It may be toward the end of the week that I can follow through with these suggestions, as there are other things I need to get done in the next two or three days. I will let you know as soon as I have done them.

I have received a response from MTU Support & this is what they say, Quote; "There is something in this system that is majorly messed up for you to be having Wait times this Long. If your system is not opening the last playlist, then there is some oth! er item going on. Make sure that you are logged on as an Admiinistrator user and NOT a Standard user, sometimes the security settings can block reading/writing to the registry, which may be why it is taking the Extra time, and not saving your items".

I'm not aware that "Administrator Rights" are assigned on the computer, unless it's automatically done by the Windows System, as there is only one user & if on the rare occassion someone else uses it, it's under the same user's login as when I'm trying to sort out an issue for my wife.

Re: Delays

You could try right clicking on the Hoster Icon and select "Run as administrator"
Other than that try my suggestions when you get time.

Re: Delays

I would like to say a big "Thank you, Roy" :)

After following your initial instruction of starting a new playlist, loading one song & test, it played fine with no delay. Loaded playlist to twenty songs & played with no problems.

The 'old' playlist was actually a new one with this version of Hoster which was only installed about two or three weeks ago. It was given a name and saved. This playlist I have deleted from it's file location.

Your help was much appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Colin
