Does things differently??

I have always loaded all my songs on a home work computer. Divided all the music on separate folders for each system. Then I would move the kma records from that folder to a folder on each work computer system and run a build database and it would work fine. I have spent the last six months dividing up music again because I have added a new computer system to do shows on.
I just tried to add all the kma files that I put into my #1 work system folder. When I bring a song on the search it tells me I have to have the original folder from the original hard that it was set up in. Please don't tell me that six months of work is all gone down the drain. Is it possible that I can get back to an older version of hoster on all my computers to resolve this problem:?

I'm finding it hard to follow what you say you do.

You should be able to copy a kma folder from one computer to the other.
I have never seen the message you say your getting.

As to whether you can go back to an earlier version, which version are you trying to go back to ?

You are not confusing KMA with KMH are you ? Only kmh files have to be in the same folder as the original file, ie mp3+g, zip or whatever type you imported.

Re: Does things differently??

Hi Roy thanks for the quick response.

I will give you an example I'm looking at right now.
Uptown Funk SF347 was created on my work home computer. (E- drive)
Moved to this work computer (Z-drive) everything else is the same Book-Id, Disk ID etc.
I'm in the search. I'm in the edit trying to play the song.
I get an error E:\KMA\SF347-1 track file is missing
The file may be renamed or on a USB- Hard Drive that is not plugged in.

I understand what this means. Even though I loaded these KMA files from E: on one hard drive to Z: on another hard drive. When I ran Build song database from Z: I think there is something in that KMA file that points to the original E: file. This has never done this before, but I have dozens of other examples on different computer including the work computer

Re: Does things differently??

I also wanted to add that the original hard drive (E:) was never plugged into this computer.

Go to Tools/Songs Database/Build Database dialog.

In the list of folders is the file path showing as Z:/xxxxx there.

Or can you attach a screen shot of that dialog.

Also when open Computer or my computer does it show drives E & Z ?

One more thing why have you chose Z as a drive letter only that is often chosen for networked drives. Just wonder if that could be a reason.

Re: Does things differently??

Hi Roy
This problem is getting more and more complicated. First of all there has never been an E: drive on this computer.
the Hoster on this computer is 5.08
I just ran update songs database. I cleared out all the files that was in there and added back one folder D: MH-04 (I changed the hard drive from Z to D)which are Monster Hit Songs that are eventually going to be on the 4th show system.
There were 291 files in this folder and went through the motions of adding all 291 but when it was complete it said 0 files added.

The songs from the last add from Z; Kma are still in there even though Z KMA is not in the list of folders (I excluded it). And these songs still point to E: KMa.

It might sound like I making this stuff up cause it's so ridiculous, but I cannot proceed with anything until the problem is resolved. Thanks, Stu

Re: Does things differently??

Try this. First off remove all folders from the build database list of folders so that no file paths are listed.

Then press the rebuild database button and it should build an empty database.

Now check the folder you want to add still contains your KMA files, if it doesn't then you may find they have been quarantined due to duplicated files found.
If they are still intact, then Add your kma folder to the list of folders, can't remember if 5.08 rebuilds as you add folders but if it does you should see a dialog confirming the amount added. If not press the rebuild button again.

Let us know if it works now.

Re: Does things differently??

I did the first step no folders and there are still a large number of files it did not empty. I know that is the way it worked before.

Re: Does things differently??

I tried the rebuild database again and one of the windows states the backup was not successful.

Re: Does things differently??

Did you press the rebuild database button after clearing all the file paths ?

Re: Does things differently??

I am sure that the hoster loaded on this computer (5.08) has a problem. I want to try a few things on the other computers and maybe my problems are unrelated.

Re: Does things differently??

in 5.08 the data folder is in a different location than the later versions, I think it changed from about 5.09 to follow New Microsoft guidelines. So if your swapping from earlier versions to later versions there could be problems there making it look in different locations for files.

Re: Does things differently??

Okay I still don't know what the problem is on this computer 5.08

The computer I use to use as a home work computer had hoster 4.3 loaded.

The new home work computer is hoster 5.10

There is a change on the old computer all you had to do was exclude folders and add folders and you would have what you want. On 5.10 I did what you suggested not only exclude all the folders but run to get it empty and that fixed my problem on 5.10 A bit of a pain but I can work around that.

As for the computer with 5.08 I'm not using this computer as a show computer right now, if there is a solution that does not include an upgrade I will try it. I may do an upgrade at a later date.

Re: Does things differently??

The trouble is not all versions are backward compatible with one another.

A number of different things get added to the database, sometimes it's extra fields data, in some cases it can be just where people requested different genre to be added. All this extra data is stored in the kma headers. If you added one of the extra genre then that is stored in the kma file then when you run those files through an earlier version that wasn't listed in the earlier versions that can cause problems but most of the problems occur when extra fields of data are added because the database of the earlier versions can't read these extra fields.

If you load an early version into a later version it updates the kma header with the extra data but then that kma file wont be compatible with the earlier version anymore.
Unless you kept a backup of the original.

For everyone to know.....Im running hoster on 2 computer with my database shared. So, I'm using only one hard drive to use for 2 computers..at the same time..

Re: Does things differently??

Stublack, I am having same problems. I load new files, zip or kma, run the database and it tells me how many songs it processed and that 0 were loaded. Very frustrating. I have become quite familiar with the manual and finally tried loading my new stuff via the import song. Seems to have worked but did not identify all of my songs. Let me know if you figure out an easier way.
