trouble upgrading 2 many installs
I don't know why this happens every time I purchase an upgrade but it does. I'll give you a little history. In February of 2013 I installed a Samsung 500GB SSD and in April 2013 upgraded Hoster had to have the instances reset, previously I had HDD's that I would clone probably monthly and sometimes swap them out to verify and then being lazy I would leave that drive in and clone the original next month. Now I have a Crucial 512GB SSD that I have cloned and am using currently. I mentioned this because I upgraded again 10/2014 and again I have too many instances of Hoster and can't upgrade. So I put in the Samsung drive (April upgrade but has been cloned since) and tried that one, couldn't upgrade still, so I uninstalled Hoster from the drive (connected to the internet) thinking the removal will bring me from the maximum 2 down to 1 less than the maximum and it should install. well I guess your software can't count because it would not install still. even though an instance was removed. now the Samsung drive has been cloned since the April upgrade and I had to replace a BD reader/DVD burner that failed with a BD/DVD burner. Other than SSD's that is the only hardware change to this Asus G73sw, I did ask my daughter to try to upgrade hers/my backup Asus G73jh, but I haven't heard anything yet, just upgraded the backup myself with no problem. I put in a support ticket Saturday but I haven't had a response, must be on Christmas vacation. (what a great movie)
Thanks, Kip |
Re: trouble upgrading 2 many installs
It's probably because when you swap out a major component it appears to registration purposes that it is not the same computer.
Next time I would think you need to uninstall Hoster before swapping out the drive, not after. If you do it after the swap it thinks your uninstalling a different a computer that is not the registered one. I will inform support and direct them to this thread. i |
Re: trouble upgrading 2 many installs
Hey Roy,
I did put in the Samsung drive and uninstall from there and it wouldn't let me reinstall and that should be the registered drive, going by purchased times. one uninstall should equal one reinstall. Processor, motherboard serial number, lan & wireless mac address, windows serial number, memory, video card, none of these things have changed. The optical drive was changed. Thanks Kip |
Re: trouble upgrading 2 many installs
Looking over invoices I see I purchased Acronis 2013 at the same time as the upgrade, I know that was because of alignment issues going from a HDD to an SSD so who knows when things became final. but I remember going back and forth between versions because the new version with 2 shows on same computer running simultaneously, if you hit play before 1 was totally done it would error the song. the old version it didn't matter.
Anyway to me drives are like underwear they should be changed once in a while. I would think a unique serial number that changes with upgrades tied to your registration would work or look at more than just a hard drive, like motherboard serial number. I don't have any problems with any other software by cloning drives. Thanks, Kip |
