Ext Disk Files To New Computer?
 

I'm confused abut where I should install my KMA files from an external drive to my laptop C: drive.

I have the files installed in an external disk using the folders F:/MTU/Hoster/Karaoke, as well as, MTU/Hoster/Audio and MP3+g. I use the ext drive for my Lenovo Laptop, and will continue to use it, but for my new laptop computer, I want them installed in the internal C drive.

I've read the manual and some of the posts in the Hoster Help, but I'm stil confused as to where I should install the files from my ext drive into my new computer.

You can basically store them anywhere you like.
I myself would create a Folder on my C:\Drive named MTU and then copy your Hoster folders to it.

So you will have a file with 3 folders inside the Hoster folder like this:
MTU\Hoster\Karaoke
------------\Audio
-------------\MP3+G

When you open your Build database dialog unselect all the song types to index buttons so that it will only adds the previously indexed files, then just use the Add folders/subfolders button, select the Hoster folder and it should index all the 3 subfolders with it.

Thanks for the quick response. I understod you directions and did that on my last computer and somehow it all ended up in ProgramData/mut.com Hoster, but I'll give it another try for C:\MTU\Hoster\Karaoke etc. and this time I used the correct\ rather than /.

However, I didn't understand the statement: "unselect all the song types to index buttons so that it will only adds the previously indexed files,". I have nothing in my computer except the Hoster program as a new install.

I installed the files as I indicated: C MTU Hoster Karaoke
Audio
MP3+g
and when I was finished and checked they were there. I opened Hoster and tried to run database and when I tried to select the folder and sub folders, they were not there. Somehow they were moved to ProgramData mtu.com Hoster.

I was able to run database, and it worked, and the files are still at ProgramData mtu.com Hoster. ????????

Did you install or upgrade Hoster after adding the song files ?

I know that if you upgrade from an earlier version of Hoster It moves the Hoster folder from C\MTU\Hoster to C:\ProgramData\mtu.com. I thought you already had it installed, I don't think it would still move the Hoster folder after 5.10 had been installed.

Having your actual song files in that folder could be a pain in the future although they will still work OK.

I would personally move them. To avoid the Hoster folder problem. I should just create a new folder in the C\MTU folder Named something like "Music". Then either Move them from inside the C:\ProgramData\mtu.com\Hoster folder to your new folder or delete them and re copy them from your external.
The File tree will be like this:

C:\MTU\Music\karaoke
\Audio
\MP3+G

Before doing that though it may be best to remove the existing file paths from the rebuild list using the "Exclude Folders" button so as to clear the database first.
If your not sure what I mean, open the Rebuild database dialog select the 3 file path in the list by using CTRL+click then press the Excude Folder button. This will remove those files from the database leaving you with an empty database. This should prevent any duplicate ids when you add the new file paths to the import list.

This is what I did as indicated in my first post. I deleted Hoster 5.10 from my HP and then was able to install it from the web site into a new Acer Laptop. I then used my external drive with my songs to copy into the three different folders to C: - MTU - Hoster. I remember reading that suggestion on this site some time ago. They were where I put them until I did a database build and they moved to ProgramData -mtu.com - Hoster. It must be some sort of magic. It also happened in my HP, but with it I had my three folders with songs at both locations. I was really messed up and some of the folders had lock icons on the folders.

Anyway, the program is working great with everything where it is and I'm reluctant to change anything, but will always listen to your great advice.
