running 2 versions of hoster

I have a Laptop running Windows 7 64 bit; 4 gig ram. I upgraded to Version 5.08 from 5.04 It is running OK but I desperately need the feature that was removed in 5.08 that lets me edit the Book ID numbers. Is it Possible to have both versions on my computer so that I may have this feature of editing?

The item was removed because it caused database corruption problems for some people, that is why 5.04 is no longer available for download. If you still have the original install file you can still go back and install that version if you want but be aware that you could corrupt your database.

I think he's asking if it's possible to have both versions installed at the same time, 5.04 to do his editing & 5.08 to run the show.
I know there was a way admin described some time ago that made it possible to do so, just cannot find the thread.

I did understand the request but the 5.08 database has extra fields of data that could make it even more likely to cause problems if you start editing in 5.04 then run 5.08 so am reluctant to give out how to do it.

This was printed in the list of changes in 5.05 when it was first removed.
Quote " REMOVED - Edit Songs Dialog Edit BookID - We no longer allow editing a BookID. The Singers Database uses BookIDs to add Songs under Singers. Thus, changing a BookID used in the Songs Database causes problems that are very hard to diagnose. Once you assign a bookID to a song, it is "permanent.

Since then there have been more updates to the 5.08 database making it even more likely to be incompatible.

....Can't this be done in Access and just write back to the file header using Hoster "Song Edits"?...

Seems simple enough to me, But you need to know what your doing First...

I'll let you try it first Joe. :r

I can tell you from testing of the next release that you will have problems if the BookID does not match with the original Disk Id when you try rebuilding the database.

Question then,... Doesn't the rebuild process read those file headers in order to rebuild the database?

Yes.

...So it's safe to say that if changes are made to let say "Book ID" (providing it's not beeing used by the system) and points to the original disc number, then that should be a no problem edit that Hoster can live with right?

Any plans on removing the 99 track limit per Book ID Obstacle from Hoster program?

Re: running 2 versions of hoster

The 99 tracks limit stays as is now.

Re: running 2 versions of hoster

I tested this procedure of editing the book Id in access then using editor to apply changes and it worked fine. Very simple just be careful that the number you are using is a free number, although it will not let you use a duplicate number without making programming changes that I would definitely not do.
Although it works I would not use this method unless you are familiar with Access.
