unable to open singer database

I get this message now when I try to start hoster. All of the other programs work find but this just started happening this week. Anyone have any ideas on this? I can't seem to find that problem here.
Thanks:? I'm on windows 8, desktop, Dell 660
It was working when I originally put it on here, just suddenly started with this.

Try this:
Open your C\MTU\Hoster folder find the singers.mdb and tempory rename it to Singers2.mdb. Then find the singers_backup.mdb and rename that to singers.mdb.
Now see if Hoster opens alright.

Re: unable to open singer database

I don't have a singers_backup file I only use this at home anymore, not for shows so I don't use any singers list on mine. But thanks for giving me something to try. :)

Re: unable to open singer database

As you don't have any singers open the C\MTU\Hoster folder and just delete the singers.mdb .

Then restart Hoster and see if it opens OK.

If it doesn't find the singers.mdb it will rebuild a new empty one.
I did not tell you to do this in first post just incase you lost all your singers data.

Even if you only use it for yourself it can be handy for storing all your own songs in for easy retrieval, just a tip not a must, you use it at you find best. :)

Re: unable to open singer database

Are you using the latest version of Hoster with your Windows 8 system ?

If so and the previous post didn't work, a couple of things you can try:
1) Try restoring your computer to a time before the problem started, see if that helps.
2) If that doesn't help re-download the software and install again, I say re download just in case you got the very first release of 5.08 that had a bug in it, try restarting if you get the same message open C\MTU\Hoster folder again, this time delete both Songs.mdb and singers.mdb then restart Hoster.
If your music files are stored on an external drive be sure to have it connected before starting Hoster for the fist time after deleting the songs.mdb as it will start rebuilding the database before opening.

Re: unable to open singer database

I've tried that, it doesn't work. Also re downloaded newest software and used it to re do, still doesn't work.
I also completely removed the program and reinstalled it. Still comes up with the same problem.

If none of the previous posts help then maybe best to submit a support ticket and point to this thread in the submission.

Sorry I couldn't help.

Re: unable to open singer database

One last stab at this, it may be something in your registry which when you uninstall does not get removed.
So un-instal again. Then open your C\MTU folder this time if the Hoster folder is still there delete it.

Then not sure if this will be the same in Windows 8 but follow these instructions to delete the registry keys: http://www.mtu.com/faq-test.php?article=26

On the first bit where it states Start click Run instead of that just type regedit.exe in the search box then from the results click it to start it.

Then re boot computer, then re-install.

This should then be as if you never had Hoster on this computer before so if as you say it installed correctly before then I see no reason why it shouldn't again.

Best of luck. :r:w

Re: unable to open singer database

none of it worked. I have no idea what the problem is, I've removed it completely, re installed, removed all the registry stuff, still no luck. Comes up, picks cd roms to test, then says can't find singers database again. Very frustrating. I have put in a request for assistance but don't know how to add this thread to it.

When you open the Hoster folder, can you see a singers.mdb file in there ?
I know you said you don't use any singers database but that file should still be present even if empty.

Re: unable to open singer database

No, it's gone. Remember, I did a complete removal and a brand new install, and that is not there. Now I'm really confused. I'll have to wait for mtu to get back to me.

Re: unable to open singer database

When you delete the singers.mdb the next time you start Hoster it should replace it.

As you say wait and see what support comes up with.

Re: unable to open singer database

and it doesn't do that. Very strange. But, I'm patient, I'll wait for them to answer me. Thanks for trying.
