Hoster will not open
Working fine just a few days ago. I did install the Mirc system around that time. Could that have caused a problem?

Have you tried doing a computer restore to a previous point in time prior to installing the "Mirc system"? |
Re: Hoster will not open
Mirc is a karaoke song download site (see www.karaokeinfo.com). I've been using it for many years, but recently transferred it from an old computer to the same one I have (had) Hoster on. Two other programs were also installed at that time-- Power CDG (see www.************.com) and MP3+g Toolz. When Hoster wouldn't open yesterday (one hour before a party of 50 was due to arrive at the house), I did a system restore with a restore date prior to the time I installed the two new programs. That had no effect. Then in desperation, I purchased the upgrade to Hoster on the mtu website (even though I already had the latest version). This didn't work either. I then uninstalled and reinstalled the program several times using the registration code I received when I purchased the upgrade. This had no effect. Now I'm not sure what to do to get it back, and am also interested in finding out what caused the problem so I can avoid a repeat. BTW, I'm running Windows 7 and a few months ago I made all of the system changes as directed by MTU. Thanks very much for any help you can provide.

Re: Hoster will not open
MIRC is a file sharing site, you open up your own computer to others to take songs from your computer and is basically illegal, I would think it is open to virus hacking as well, people can even copy your Hoster program so I would not be surprised if this is what started your problem. It may have just corrupted your database so try this.
Open C\MTU\Hoster folder, find your songs.mdb file and delete it. Then try starting Hoster but make sure you have any drives with your music files on connected before starting as it should look for these and rebuild the database before opening. If you see the dialog stating that it's rebuilding don't stop it or you will spoil the process, once the database is rebuilt it should open as normal. If it doesn't come back and tell us. |
Re: Hoster will not open
I deleted the songs mdb file and deleted all of the Mirc files. It still does not open. Please let me know of next steps. Also please let me know of any legal sites to purchase karaoke songs on line that I can transfer right into Hoster once we get it to open again. Thanks, Greg

Re: Hoster will not open
See my post from a week or so ago. Sounds like the same problem I had, which I never did figure. Lucky to have lots of computers laying around. I uninstalled to free the license & installed on a different laptop. I never did figure out the problem.

If you get to item 6 and don't see any of the items then that will mean they were removed with the uninstall but if they show complete them, this will remove any settings that may be corrupted and make your computer as if it had not had Hoster on it before so you will lose all previous settings. Next look in your C drive and see if you still have a folder named MTU there, if you do open that and see if you have a folder named Hoster, if these are not present then that is because they were removed with the uninstal but if the Hoster folder is still there rename it to something like Hoster 2 this will act as a backup. Now try re-installing Hoster and let us know if you have any luck. Quote:

Re: Hoster will not open
Yes it did; but it would not open after rebuilding the data base.
I brought my computer to a repair shop yesterday and they told me that the registry files were corrupted and that I would have to completely wipe the hard drive and reinstall all programs and files in order to get Hoster to open. Does this sound right to you? Thanks for your help. |

They should fix it as I have been in touch with support on this and they believe that the instructions I gave you were correct to repair your Hoster. If you do as the shop suggested you still need to uninstall Hoster first to free up the re installing, try my fix above first it will be a lot easier than restoring your computer. |
Re: Hoster will not open
Roy: The steps you suggested to delete the registry did fix the problem. Thanks very much for your help with this.

Re: Hoster will not open
Glad to hear it fixed it for you, I won't close this thread yet as Wayne White may want to comment.
