4.0 question

I bought 4.0 Nov 2009 for two computers. I also bought the cd at the same time. I have never done any upgrades since this version has worked fine and it is all I need. I now want to add a second computer. After reading some of the threads I'm confused. Several say a version as old as mine will not work on windows 7 64bit. That is what is on the computer I am using now. Why would it not work on the new one?

Re: 4.0 question

Because the code was written before windows 7 64 bit was available so things had to be changed in the code to make it function correct.
You can try installing it, see if it does work for you.

This is printed in the upgrades page for version 4.32:
  1. 432.12 UPGRADE 12/01/2010 <!--Import Database now has 375,013 records.-->
    • FIXED Hoster On Windows 64-bit Systems Would NOT Upgrade - Versions 432.11 and prior had a problem with registering on Windows 64-bit versions that prevented upgrading. This was fixed in 4.32.12. If you run 4.32.11 or prior, and run Windows 64-bit OS, please submit a Support Ticket and include these two facts and we will correct the problem so you can upgrade. We apologize for this problem, but Microsoft gave us no warning they changed Windows operations!

First, how old is your version of Hoster 4.0, is it 4.0 precisely, or may it be 4.2 or 4.22, etc?

I had 4.09D on an older laptop and had to upgrade to 5.0x as these newer versions are created for a 64 bit system, however, I think that somewhere around 4.22, they were still working on 32 bit systems. There is a listing somewhere in the product web site that details all the versions and exactly when they switched over to 64 bit only.

Roy Dennis is really good at explaining how to change over from one computer to another. Send him a private message by looking for his name anywhere in these posts and click on it, then click on "send user private message" when the little box of options pops up.
