Problem with Songs.mdb

I have a new computer with Windows7. I opened MTU, then Hoster and went to Songs. I know Songs is Songs.mdb because it had 8728 kb. I double clicked Songs, which went into Access. when I open Access, there is nothing there. How do I get to my songs???

Thanks,
Ernie

Re: Problem with Songs.mdb

Have you got Hoster working on this new computer ?
Which version of Hoster are you using ?
Why are you trying to open it in Access ?

To view the extensions to files so that you can see that it is .mdb you need to set the view in folders options. You can do that this way:
Control Panel/(Appearance and Personalization if in category view) then Folder options. Once you have the dialog up click the view tab, then look for "Hide extensions for known file types" then un tick the box press Apply and OK now when you brows to the folder you should see that it is songs.mdb

Re: Problem with Songs.mdb

Hi Roy,
I have v5.07, I was checking Access to see if I had a file on it. I tried to install a song on my external and it wouldn't take it. It also wouldn't let me do a build database. When I went to open Hoster again, a sign came up and said I had to disable User Access Control, so I just did that.
I have an icon that installed on the desktop when I installed Hoster, when I open it, it reads: The version of this file is not compatable with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher...... Under System, it has system type, 64 bit. I know Hoster can run on 32 and 64 bit, so I don't understand why this keeps coming up. I'm still working things out on 7, buy XP seemed easier, plus I knew where to find things.
Roy, before I closed out this letter, I just tried to open Songs.mdb in Access and there's nothing there. I'm going to send this and then try a reboot.

Thanks,
Ernie

Re: Problem with Songs.mdb

Roy,
When I open the Songs table, above the Songs Table is a strip that says: Songs: Database (Access 2000 file format) I have Office 2003, is that a problem? One thing I don't understand is the fact that this table opened the other day without a problem. I don't know what would have changed it.

Thanks,
Ernie

Re: Problem with Songs.mdb

When you opened it the other day, did you see all your song files in it then ?
What I'm wondering is did you accidentally save it while it was open ?
If so this could have altered it.

When you saw the message about user access control, that is part of the instructions you should have followed before starting Hoster, have you done all the recommendations as mentioned here: http://www.mtu.com/upgrades/hoster/windows7-changes.htm

I have not seen this Icon you mention but is probably due to you not following all the recommendations, sometimes after installing it may ask you if the program installed OK, if it does press yes.
As far as I know there is only one version and it runs on 32 or 64bt. I have not herd of this problem before.

What I would try is Go into C\MTU\Hoster folder and delete your songs.mdb

Then if your songs are on an external hard drive make sure to have it connected before starting Hoster. When Hoster restarts it won't open right away it will rebuild the database, you should see a small dialog saying something like indexing x amount out of xxxx amount, Hoster will open when this is finished.
If you then get Hoster working OK, instead of opening the songs.mdb directly make a copy of it and open the copy in Access, then you wont spoil the one in Hoster.

Re: Problem with Songs.mdb

Roy,
Everything is back to normal. It was my mess up. I have two external hard drives. One is for the Karaoke songs only and the other one I used to backup C:/ drive on my old computer, so I could transfer files to my new computer. Somehow I misplaced one of the power cords, so I would go back and fourth with the one cord for both hard drives. In the Build Songs Database I had D:\Songs, but with going back and fourth with the externals, the computer had changed the Songs hard drive to K:\Songs. I had gone through that list when I downloaded Hoster, and it had worked fine. That was the reason I couldn't understand why it just stopped working. Once again, thank you for all your help Roy.
