Reformat and Reload of Hoster 3.321a & 5.06

I have been happily running Hoster 3.321a for quite some time with no problems, on a windows 7 system with plenty of memory etc. Recently though it has been just shutting down mid song. Sometimes it just quits, other times the screen flashes that Hoster performed an illegal function and must shut down. Just Hoster, not the laptop. I restart Hoster and all is well for a time. This happens 3 to 6 times during a 4 hour show. Any idea why??

As a solution, I am planning on upgrading but want to reformat and do clean install of windows 7, then load the new Hoster. I read on another post that if I have purchased the upgrade I will not need to reload the old version but I am not sure that extends back to 3.321a. Should I contact admin and remove 3.321a before I reformat or is it ok to just wipe the drive and do the clean install, then load the new upgrade? Any one know that answer or have a suggested order in which to do things?

Thanks a lot.

It must be something changed on your computer just prior to getting these shut downs. It may be a new program you installed or even an update to another program, perhaps a windows update.
Only solution I can think of is to use system restore and try and select a date prior to when these shut downs started occurring. On windows 7 it should tell you before you restore what programs it will affect, there bye showing which programs altered after the date you select. Make a note of these updates so as not to reinstal a particular update if that is the cause.

MTU state "If your software is a lower version number (ex: Hoster 3.321), please upgrade to the current version so you can move it any time you want.
Clicking the above link will explain more.
So they are saying upgrade it first then move it.
Other than that you will have to contact MTU to allow moving to another computer.
Just as note 3.321a is not 64bit compatible.

Thanks so much Roy. Next thing I will do is purchase my upgrade and load the new version of Hoster.

I found your note about Hoster 3.321a not being 64bit compatible very interesting and it is amazing that I have not had problems before now. You see, I loaded my 3.321 on this new 64bit laptop in August of 2010 and have had ZERO problems until the last couple of weeks. I did follow procedure and make all the proper changes before loading it and it has never been online for any kind of hoster or windows updates since that time. But alas, it is time for an upgrade. I just hope that all goes smoothly and that I like it. If I have any problems I will post again for sure.

Meanwhile,

Why not try the Demo first ?

When I say it was not 64bit compatible, a lot of the 64bit problems didn't come about untill versions 4.xxx I think, because there were not that many 64bit computers about at that time, so if yours worked Ok at that time it might just be related to some settings on your computer changing.
Did you recheck all the original recommended settings ?

Yes, I ran the demo yesterday. Didn't test it out a lot, just pretty much looked it over. Today will be the real load and I don't have a show until Wednesday so that will be the test.

3.21 always ran fine on my Vista 64 bit laptop. I still have it on for backup, although 5.06 seems to be fine with it.

Sounds right to me. Like I said I ran for over a year with no problems.

Have now upgraded. Seems to be working ok. Will practice until show on Wednesday. Haven't figured out how to use the instabuttons. That screen is all blank, nothing to check mark. Is that right?

There is a check box in the upper left "Display Instabuttons" but it won't display any untill you load some using the "Select File" button" then you have to check the box next to each file that you want to display.
