running videohoster 5.06 on old hardware?
Hi.
I am considering to upgrade my videohoster. But my laptop is very old. It is currently running HosterLite 3.110 released in 2005. This version works perfectly with my laptop The laptop (medion) is from 2004 with these specs: Intel Celeron 1,5 GHz 480 MB ram. WIN XP Yes it is old stuff, but it works and I only use hosterlite for about 5 gigs a year. Now the question is: would it be advisable to install Videohoster 5.06 on this old hardware or am I better of staying with the current version? --- One "Sub-question" My next laptop is definitely going to be a Macbook. Does VideoHoster come in a version for Mac, or is there any other karaokesoftware that will play the .kma files on a mac - or if not: Does Videohoster work properly on a Mac with bootcamp.? Regards, Martin |

It runs on my old XP from 2004 with 1.5 mb ram.
I think it would struggle with only 480 mb ram. But then ram is pretty cheap now days. Why not try the Demo, give you a good idea. As too your Mac question there are a couple of users running it on bootcamp successfully. |
Re: running videohoster 5.06 on old hardware?
I agree with Roy, 480MB RAM is a bit on the shy side... :? However... it just may run. XP doesn't require much RAM, unlike Windows 7.
Instead of version 5.06, you want to run the 5.07 demo. Just click the DEMO link in the Hoster Upgrade page and it will deliver 5.07. One new feature we added into 5.07 is that we change your Hoster.exe (runtime executable that is 3.110 for you) into HosterPrior.exe and create a Desktop icon for it, then Hoster.exe is installed (5.07) so you have BOTH, and can run one at a time (don't run both). The 5.07 Demo will not bother your 3.110 so both can be on your XP. As to the Macbook, Apple lost Steve Jobs. Who knows what direction they will now take. Microsoft Windows still has 95% of the market, and Apple 5%. We have no plans to support Apple's OS X, but as Roy wrote, Hoster does run on Bookcamp. |
Re: running videohoster 5.06 on old hardware?
I wish you would support the Mac OS it is far better than the windows system and takes up less resources. I have been using Macs now for 3 years and not once has the system crashed or ever let me down so perhaps you should think again about supporting as I for one would be prepared to pay a little extra for that :)
