Duplicates

is it possible that hoster duplicated my database ? it seems that every song is in the book 2+ times. i dont remember having as many songs as i do ?

could it have happened on a rebuild ?

can i delete the songs.mdb and rebuild from scratch ? if i do will it mess up all i edited to it ?

Re: Duplicates

It should not be possible if your songs are imported with their Disc id's as original kma files as Hoster should recognize duplicate Disc Id's.

One thing I will say, in the list of folders in the rebuild dialog check you don't have any listed twice or a folder from a backup listed. This might quite possibly result in some duplicate songs especially if Hoster created it's own Disc ID Like xyzxxx.

Rebuilding the database will not alter any of the edited changes you made providing you made the edits using Hosters edit dialog as that stores all the changes in the headers of each song.
When you rebuild it reads these headers and stores that info in the songs.mdb.
However if you made edits to the database using access which only stores the changes in the songs.mdb and does not re-wright that back to the headers then you could loose some of the edits. :f

So if you used Hoster to make your edits you can delete your songs.mdb and rebuild it. But it should not be nessacery to delete it as rebuilding it will overwrite the existing. If you are talking about version 5.05 or 5.06, if you delete your songs.mdb then restart Hoster it should start rebuilding as you start Hoster so if you have all your music on an external drive be sure to have it connected before restarting it the first time.

Re: Duplicates

To add to my previous post, list all your songs in edit dialog using the wild card * find character, then either click the header for Artist or Title to make it sort in those columns.
Now look down the list for duplicates and when you find a matching Title with same Artist check out the Brand and disc Id if they are same brand but has a different disc ID is it a proper Disc Id or a xyzxxx. this might help solve what has happened.

One other thing that I've since thought of, by default Hoster always adds C:/MTU/kma files folder to the list of folders. If you copied or moved these files to a folder on an external drive then you added that to the list of folders and there were still files in the C:/MTU/kma files folder could Hoster have duplicated these files some way. ?

if there were the same folder twice in the rebuild could it then have renumbered the second folder and thus i have duplicates ?

i did all my editing through hoster except the titles with a space before the first letter, i did that in access.

From my testing it you can't add the same folder twice. So unless anyone can contradict that then assume I'm right.
But if you had a folder duplicated an exact copy meaning you had 2 separate folders but they both had the same song files in. Like if you had a backup folder listed, then yes you could get duplicated songs.
If you do find a file like this listed in the folders list, select it and click the exclude folders button, this will remove all those files from the list but will not delete them from the hard drive so can always be replaced by using the add files button again.

I don't think that problem will exist if you are using 5.05 or 5.06
When you first run Hoster 5.05 or 5.06 from an earlier version it automatically rebuilds the database, so if you haven't done anymore editing in access since using these versions you won't loose any of the info that exists in the database as it is now. So rebuilding it should not be a problem.

Are the XYZxxxx files exact duplicates of another proper Disc id Example:(CB60845)
Or were they created originally because you did not enter a disc ID ?
If they are exact duplicates, can you load both into the playlist and both play OK ?
One other point are all your files kma or are they a mix of kma and kmh types. ?

Re: Duplicates

all my files are kma

i noticed in my songbook that the duplicate songs book id are close in numbers.

like one song the book id is 105-38 the same song duplicated is 182-45

its like that with most of the songs

plus my c:/karaoke file has 15,563 files and my songbook says it has over 27K songs

ya no roy when i switched over to hoster 5.xx from 4 i had problems with my database. i lost most of my songs. not sure if that has anything to do with it. i might have re-added the folders to try and get back my songs.

Re: Duplicates

im not sure why hoster is creating a HDMP3G file for all my .zip songs ???? it looks like it did it when i imported them as kmh files.
