Preview screen covering Show display
I have been running hoster for a number of years now and am having some really strange things happen since upgrading to version 5.xx.
I am currently running on 5.06.03 and am still having the same issues. 1) Hoster is shutting down at random throughout my shows. I try to replicate the issue at home but with no success. 2) My preview screen at random will disappear and then be covering my show display. Again I have tried to replicate this at home without success. I am running on 2 computers and details are as follows, all KMA files are on the internal harddrive. It is becoming a little frustrating so any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Computer 1 Hoster Version - 5.06.03 Lenovo G575 Operating System – Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Cpu – AMD E-300 APU with Radeon HD graphics 1.3GHz Ram – 4GB Video Card – AMD Radeon HD 6310M Hard drive - 500 GB Computer 2 Hoster Version - 5.06.03 Toshiba Satellite Operating System – Windows Vista home Premium 32 bit Cpu – Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T6400 2GHz Ram – 4 GB Video Card – ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 Hard drive - 320 GB |
Re: Preview screen covering Show display
I see you have 2 computers listed in your signature, is the same thing happening on both machines ?
If so, do you use the same external cables and hardware to connect to the external ? When you refer to your preview screen are you referring to the small screen that the default would be fixed in the top left hand window or the singers screen that would show on the external monitor ? If you are referring to the singers screen, that one would expand to cover your main screen if you double click it, double clicking it again should shrink it back to where you placed it. If you have an external monitor attached for your singers screen then double clicking it should send it to your external monitor. Now if this is the screen you are referring to then I reckon you have something wrong with the connection to the external monitor and as it loses signal causes it to jump back to your computer in full screen mode. So my next question is how are you connecting to the second monitor ? Check the cable connections and if you are using some sort of converter box check that out or replace it. One other thing you can try first is reset your screens to their default locations Tools/Options Reset displays button. |

Hi Roy, thanks for your reply.
In answer to your questions I see you have 2 computers listed in your signature, is the same thing happening on both machines ? (Yes it is happening on both machines) If so, do you use the same external cables and hardware to connect to the external ? (I have no external hardware what so ever, I connect 1 computer to the singers TV via a svideo to rca cable, and the other via a VGA to RCA convertor). When you refer to your preview screen are you referring to the small screen that the default would be fixed in the top left hand window or the singers screen that would show on the external monitor ? (Correct) If you are referring to the singers screen, that one would expand to cover your main screen if you double click it, double clicking it again should shrink it back to where you placed it. If you have an external monitor attached for your singers screen then double clicking it should send it to your external monitor.(No the main/singers screen is fine, it is the preview screen that can be locked in the top left hand corner that covers the singers screen, but only when it is undocked, it just automatically for some reason moves over to the singers TV and covers up teh singers screen. The show still goes on as the singer can still see the words, but there is no display screen on the laptop screen for teh host to see.) Now if this is the screen you are referring to then I reckon you have something wrong with the connection to the external monitor and as it loses signal causes it to jump back to your computer in full screen mode. So my next question is how are you connecting to the second monitor ? (1 computer is connecting through a Svideo to RCA connector, the other is connecting through a VGA to RCA convertor) I have had no problems with this before upgrading to 5.xx. Any advice is appreciated. |
Re: Preview screen covering Show display
I see what you mean, have not seen this problem before.
Can you just check out your settings. With an external monitor connected right click on blank area of your desk top, select screen resolution from the window that pops up, at the bottom where it says Multiple displays, is it showing Extend these Displays or something else ? If it shows something else use the drop down arrow to select Extend these displays then press apply. I cannot seem to duplicate your problem but as it's happening on both your computers it must be a setting that you are using. If you setting is showing as extend these displays let us know and I will look further into the graphics card set up to see if I can duplicate it. |

However, I work on my laptop at home without hooking it up to a second monitor but don't make any changes to my settings. So, I have the singers display small enough so tht it sits just next to my Playlist. When I double-click while rehearsing, it covers my laptop screen, and double-clicking will put it back. (when I hook it up to a 2nd monitor, double-clicking sends it to the other monitor). The new problem I see now is that when I am not using a 2nd monitor - when I double-click to make it cover my laptop, the Playlist is covered except for the Preview Window is on top of my full screen. It does not stay locked on the Playlist, no matter what. This never happened before. |

This might even help with the original writers problem so uncheck the always on top option. |

From the preview tab, there are 2 tick boxes, 1 to undock the display and the other to make it always on top if it is undocked. :) This is printed in the manuel: If you want the undocked Preview Display to always be above other applications, click Always on top. It was introduced in version 5.02: this is printed in the list of changes: CHANGED Undocked Preview Display "Always On Top" - We added a new checkbox in the Tools menu > Show Display dialog > Preview Display tab to allow those who want the Preview Display to always be on top to click it. When unclicked, the Display does not appear over other application screens. |

Did you look at what I stated in one of the other posts about always on top, "If you look in the Tools/Show display and select the Preview tab there is a tick box for always on top untick it." |
