Hoster 502 Install Problem

I have tried to install all 4 versions of Hoster 502. with the same results. Hoster seems to go through the installation process correctly and then asks me to restart the computer. When you try and start Hoster a black window appears and nothing else, this window looks like the singers lyrics window that you move over to the singers TV.

After this window appears nothing else happens. The Windows task mgr show cpu activity in the processes running screen with hoster.exe using roughly 30% of the processor. I thought it was updating my kma files but you can run this forever and it doesn't ever stop. It does not show Hoster in the running applications window.

I have completed all the Hoster Windows XP recomended changes.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Steve Douglas

Not quite sure what you mean by tried installing all 4 versions but try this:
Go into the C:/MTU/Hoster Folder, find your songs.mdb file and delete it.
Restart Hoster, if you are using 5.04 or later it will probably build the database before opening Hoster, don't stop it building the database.
If it's an earlier version it should open right away, once open rebuild the data base.

Re: Hoster 502 Install Problem

I tried installing the four available Hoster 502.x versions available on the Hoster Upgrade page.

I tried deleting the songs.mdb file with no help.

Not sure why you are using two different logins to the forums, but it is a little confusing.
There are only 3 of the version 5.02 available there, at any rate you should always use the latest copy, which would be the top most of that version. You may have gotten a bad download of them, so try downloading again. Be sure to Save it to your computer instead of clicking Run.
What version were you using before?

I'm wondering if the main display has gone to an area of the main screen (out of view) display off the screen. Try this: right click on the desk top select properties, select setting tab and try chaging the screen resolution first to maximum press apply and Ok. Now can you see a part of the main display at the edge of the screen enough to allow you to drag it into proper view, if not try again setting the resolution to minimum and see if an area appears near the edge of the screen. If not It may be that you will have to go into the registry and delete some keys to remove all the settings. See if the above helps first.
As Dale stated which version did you upgrade from ?

I tried changing the resolution to the max resolution with no help. What registry keys need to be deleted?

Re: Hoster 502 Install Problem

The instructions for that are in this link:
Hoster Registry- How to Delete the Registry Keys

But be aware you will lose all your settings and playlists.
It would be a good idea before doing this to save a copy of the Hoster folder first, this has the Playlists, singers.mdb, songs.mdb and a lot of usefull recoverable data in it that you may want to have use of after.

I should un-install Hoster After making a copy of the Hoster folder, then when you re install it should be like a completly new instalation.

The Hoster folder is in C:/MTU/Hoster

I've had something similiar happen before. Doubleclicking the black screen moved it from my monitor to my TV and fixed it.

Re: Hoster 502 Install Problem

Yes as Sam said it may have been that it was showing in full screen mode which would have made the singers screen fill the window and cover the main display so double clicking it may have solved the problem.

Anyway you seem to be OK now so I will close this thread as solved.
