Version 5.04 Wildcard?

I just realized that we can no longer do a wildcard search in the search window. A message pops up stating that the wildcard is no longer supported in this mode. Does anyone know why this was dropped. Although I didn't use this feature often it was a very valuable and time savings feature. I am sure the MTU had a reason to drop it but I am curious as to why.

My understanding is that it was causing glitchs in sound/video because of the large number of files being searched at once. So rather than allowing this to keep happening, they removed it.
It is still available in the Edit Songs tool since you don't normally edit during a show.

I figured that there was problem of some kind. Thanks Dale.

Re: Version 5.04 Wildcard?

Well, it's not so much a problem with Hoster, but with many users now having tens of thousands of Karaoke, Audio and Video files in their Songs Database, the way Access DB Manager works, a wild card search bypasses all indexed fields (BookID, Artist and Title) and scans every record for the fields you have clicked (green or orange).

The Search dialog was not intended to search for EVERYTHING, which the * wildcard did. You should use it to search for "something" you know about the song or artist you are looking for, or other fields such as Mux or Duet. Searching everything with a bunch of fields will cause audio and/or video glitching. We asked many Hoster users how often they use * and the answer, like you posted, was for the most part "I never use it". We felt this was a valid tradeoff to protect your shows.
