singers list dissapeared on upgrage

I need a bit of help .i just last night upgraded to the latest hoster 5.4.10 i think it is called. i was not too concerned and when i loaded it i did not actualy open hoster tilli was at my show. well it very much surprised me by insisting on rebuilding my database i was freaked out by this as i just made all new books and i thought that it would change all my book numbers and thus cost me a bunch of money to get new ones made. the good news is it did not change my numbers, the bad news is that all my signers databases are now empty and some of my singers were very very upset. is there anyway i can get the database back to where it was? i am using xp on a toshiba satilite laptop with the latest video hoster software. thanks in advance

Can't believe you would upgrade and not open it till your show:e

Anyway, go to C/MTU/Hoster folder find your singers.mdb file and delete it. Now rename the singers_backup.mdb to singers.mdb and that should fix it. You could just make a copy of singers_backup.mdb before renaming it and paste it temporary on your desktop, then if all goes well re-paste it back in the Hoster folder as a future backup.

Have you not got a copy on another computer that you could paste in.

Alternately could try restoring your computer to an earlier time before you upgraded, see if that recovers the files, then make a backup copy and store in a safe place before upgrading it again and let the rebuild complete as it should without stopping it.

If that doesn't work it is reversible.

But not if you have another show right away :)

I moved this to Hoster Help where this type of question is looked for and answered.

Are you absolutely sure you don't have the songers_backup.mdb in the C/MTU/Hoster folder? :?

Our code does an automatic backup before converting to the new Singers Database format. This is a code failure if its not there, and there is no other answer. :e

the file was there but it was utterly empty no singers and no list of songs but the singers.mdb at least had all the singers listed, just no songs to go with them. a complete pain in the butt. but not a show stopper i am stuck trying to remember the singers songs for a few of my very regular regulars but i wish it had not happened. when i first got the popup that said you must rebuild the dattabase i canceled it i thought it was aglitch then since it gave me no choice i said ok and rebuilt it but i also canceled that when i thought i remebered that it would renumber allthe songs making the books i just had printed useless. than since i did not have a choice i ran it again and let it run it's course. why in the world did it have to rebuild the database anyway? it never did this before.

Roy i also tried doing a reset of the computer to an earlier version/ set point/ recovery point, to a day before all this but when i went to the singers list it was still empty. I thought that that was weird but what can you do i am no expert. On the plus side this new upgrade finally stopped the crashing i was getting every time I tried to add a song from a singers flash drive. well every time is not accurate as long as i loaded it before i added a song using the search feature it loaded fine but as soon as i used the search feature and then went to koke and added a song that way CRASH every time. It made me hate flash drives lol but now this version does not do that anymore. so a little good with the bad as they say. thanks for all your help. PS how is that search and replace feature comming along in the edit songs feature? still on track?

It had to rebuild the database because it has extra fields of data that weren't in the previous version and although you will not notice the difference because you lost the data, the singers list is a lot faster in opening in this version for peaple who had large lists.

I think when you canceled the rebuild just as it started was the start of your problem, before it starts it makes a back up from the existing. Perhaps you canceled it before it built a new singers.mdb then when you restarted it I reckon the singers.mdb was now blank and it built a back up from what was now a blank singers.mdb:m

Sorry to hear the restore point didn't work, I can't think of anything else you can do. Always a good idea to make a backup of the Hoster folder itself stored somewhere else other than the computer, like a cd.

Re: singers list dissapeared on upgrage

I had all my songs disappear on me when I first got the new version - singers were there but songs listed as NULL, I refreshed the singer database (after regular database rebuilt upon startup) and all was good again. Click Singer on main page, and click refresh DB on the singer database window. See if that doesn't help. Although you would have to restore the database if you renamed it.

Roy,

If you remember, I had this same problem when I upgraded my backup computer and this was your instructions. I had put off doing it until I read this tonight and so I tried it...

It worked perfect for me. All my Singer's songs came back...

Thanks!
