Hoster only seeing default soundcard
1 Attachment(s)
I just built a new rackmount computer to replace my old show computer. I removed Hoster from old computer and installed it on my new computer and cannot get Hoster to see anything other than Windows Default soundcard. Both cards are seen in windows and I can change back and forth between the two without restarting windows. I am using an ASUS Essence STX as my primary, and built in audio as my secondary. My DJ program can see both and I can select one as primary output and one as preview (headphone) output.
Any ideas? I've attached my DxDiag info. Flip |
Re: Hoster only seeing default soundcard
Which version of Windows ?
Which version of Hoster ? Have you looked at the Tools/Audio Controls in the lower windows dropdown. ? |
Re: Hoster only seeing default soundcard
Ooops, sorry, Windows 7 64bit, latest version of Hoster 5.04. Yes, I have looked there, the only thing that shows in the dropdown menu is the windows default soundcard, and the "Search Audio Card" dropdown is greyed out.

Re: Hoster only seeing default soundcard
First of did you have this card working with previous computer setup ?
check the following, Right click the speaker icon on the taskbar and select "playback devices" Right click again in the list of sound devices and tick the boxes for "Show Dissabled devices" And "Show disconnected devices" Now you should see both devices, is one showing as disabled ? you need one showing default device and one showing ready. It won't be seen in Hoster unless you restart Hoster after making the settings. |
Re: Hoster only seeing default soundcard
Thats the problem, I can use both soundcards in windows. I presently can use both soundcards at the same time in my DJ program.
When the ASUS Xonar card is default, and the onboard (Realtek) shows as ready, the only card I can select in Hoster is the ASUS Xonar. When the Realtek onboard soundcard is default in windows and the ASUS is ready, the only card I can select in Hoster is the Realtek. When the Realtek 2nd output is default and the others are ready, the only one I can select in Hoster is the Realtek 2nd Output. Thus I can only select the default soundcard in Hoster, and not have a second soundcard for search playback. |
Re: Hoster only seeing default soundcard
So is it always that the "Playlist Audio Card" is the only one that shows a soundcard and the "Search Audio Card" is always showing blank ?
Perhaps something got corrupted with the install, have you tried re-downing and installing Hoster ? |
Re: Hoster only seeing default soundcard
Looking back some things changed in version 4.32 regarding 2nd audio cards, This was one of the changes:
UPGRADED Search Dialog Audio Card/Port Recognition - Windows 7 (and Vista) can create "virtual" audio ports that it uses internally. However, because these are no longer identified as before, Hoster's code presented these virtual ports. Now it only presents and uses physical audio cards or ports (not virtual ports) for the Playlist and the Search dialog preview play feature. Weather this has anything to do with not picking up your sound card I don't know. Another thing you can try is: Right click on the playback devise and in the window select properties then the advanced tab and untick the box "Allow aplication to take exclusive control of this devise" Do the same in both soundcards and see if you have any joy, if not you can return the settings back. But remember to close Hoster and restart for any effect to happen. |
Re: Hoster only seeing default soundcard
Yeah, I saw that, however I don't think this is the case since individually, either of the sound cards work. Its very unusual.
I suppose it's a moot point now, as I was able to use my old Creative X-Fi USB soundcard and it was recognized as a second card. But thanks for the help. |
