Wild Card (*) Missing with update
I really miss the * as the wildcard, and would like to have it back. Why did you change something that worked well?

Re: Wild Card (*) Missing with update
Thanks for the reply, however the wild card was a great way to stroll though the listing of songs and putting them on the play list to demo the songs quickly, including changing the key. I'm not a professional and I know most folks using thus program are, but the * was sure a great feature for me. Did I tell you I was a lousy speller?

Re: Wild Card (*) Missing with update
I quite liked it myself, I could select Duet then * and just show all my duets.:f

Re: Wild Card (*) Missing with update
Genre no problem, You just highlight genre and enter the genre in the search box. Like if I enter 60's It lists all mine that are filed under 60's.
But with the duet and multiplex you can now only enter an artist name or song title then find if you have that in duet or multiplex.:f |
Re: Wild Card (*) Missing with update
I think there will be a problem even with genre, because you might not remember which genre is which and a specific song may have different genres listed. What is 60's to you might be listed as something else in the data base.
I tried to download an older version to get my * back, but I had no success. Wes |
Re: Wild Card (*) Missing with update
Do you mean you could not download an old version or that the older version wont work ?
What version are you talking about ? |
Re: Wild Card (*) Missing with update
I know I'm being a pain, but the * was such a great feature. As an example, I'm having a Valentine Karaoke Party and I'm picking songs that will reflect the theme. If I had the * as it used to be I could create a playlist by sorting through the different songs and playing them and then keeping of rejecting them. I can sort by title, artist, and by genre. I could also sort by duet and multiplex in case someone wanted to try out the song. Once I put them on the playlist, I could listen to the song, change the key and if multiplex, I could learn the song. It was quick and straight forward. I could then cull from the playlists and I would be ready to have fun with the using Hoster.
Of course I'm not a professional, so I don't understand what the "problem" was with the use of the * and the singer's list. I use Hoster for home use and don't have 10,000 songs or lots of singer lists. I just know Hoster worked great as it was. Roy, thanks for your input, I've decided to keep the current version and try to operate without the *, and hope the * function will return to Hoster. Wes |
Re: Wild Card (*) Missing with update
For what you are doing, just preparing a song list, you could open two instances of Hoster by clicking your Hoster Icon a second time. using one instance open the edit dialog where you can still use the * to search, play in the small preview window and if you find it's one you like note it's book ID switch over to the second instance and enter that book id into the song selection and load it to the playlist. then switch back to the other instance that is still in the edit dialog.:)

Re: Wild Card (*) Missing with update
Roy,
Thanks for the reply. What you indicate is somewhat what I do in edit, except I write the book IDs down and then switch back to add them. You have to admit, the old way was much quicker, and I think better. I'm not versed enough in the operation of Hoster in real time at a show, to know what problem was so great that the function was removed. I looked at your web site and you sure have quite a set up and list of songs. I think it's great you're enjoying your retirement doing something you like and it's great you're helping us less knowledgeable Hoster users. Wes |
Re: Wild Card (*) Missing with update
I do admit, the old way was much quicker and better. And hope it comes back.

Re: Wild Card (*) Missing with update
I have to agree with Wrahn, I never realized how often I used that * wildcard until it was gone. I do hope it can find it's way back as well - even if it's in the 'slow' search side.

Re: Wild Card (*) Missing with update
Roy and Lonman,
Thanks for your input and support for what was a great feature for Hoster users. Wes |
Re: Wild Card (*) Missing with update
I miss this also. I posted about this a couple of months ago. I would like to have it back also.

Re: Wild Card (*) Missing with update
I agree that the * was a great feature. I just installed a demo on a friend's computer and after I installed demo songs, I tried to use the * to pull them up and put them on the playlist. I got a flash that said it was no longer available. I have the old version of Hoster with the wildcard feature and I don't think I will upgrade until they bring the * back! I use the * an awful lot and would not be able to function quickly without it.

Re: Wild Card (*) Missing with update
I just upgraded and the wild card was the first thing I looked for. How sad
