Cannot Search Anything - Needed to Build Songs Database on New Computer

Just bought the latest Hoster upgrade and am operating on Windows 7, I can not search out anything when I try to search it says it can not find it. If I try to play the same song through the playlist it works but nothing no matter what I put in search nothing works.

Re: Cannot Search Anything

If you pasted your original Songs.mbd file into your Hoster folder it will only work if the path followed in your new computer was the same path and drive letters in your old system.

Noting your previous posts this installation is on a new computer as well as an upgrade to Hoster 5.02 therefore I would think it needs to be told where all your files are located.

Open your Tools/Build songs Database/Choose build Database, in the dialog that opens in the bottom left window should be a list of all the folders where you store your music. If the correct folders are showing then press the Rebuild database button.
If there are no folders showing in the list below the Add folders button, either use the Add Folders button or the Add folders/Subfolders button if you have them in sub folders and navigate to the folders and select.
If you do this right Hoster will scan these folders for any existing KMA or KMH files and build a new data base with your files in.
If there are any folders in this list that are the wrong file path use the exclude button.
You can tell which files are in a folder in this list by highlighting the folder and it will show the contents in the right hand panel.

Hi Roy, working on this right now. I tested a couple songs but another question: When the process what done and I pulled up a song from the right and it went to the playlist it said SKIP. Am I missing something here? Although I can play from the Playlist. Will you be available later this eveing for my posts as you and Dale are so much help? I am CST. Thank you so very much.

Right above the Add button is a check box for Skip. Uncheck that and it won't do that.

In the search dialog there is a check box so you can choose to have them entered as skip, unchecked this box to have them enter ready status.
As to your question about later this evening, I will be around for about another hour and a half as I am based in the UK so the time now for me is 10.50 pm.
I can't answer for Dale but his time zone is about 6hrs behind mine.

Re: Cannot Search Anything

Thanks Dale-it worked. But, how do I not make it SKIP? Do I have to do this to all of the songs? And also in the Playlist, there are songs that say UNAVAILABLE in grey. How does this happen? Or would this have been a download issue from the back up drive? Should I go back and delete and redownload back into the computer?

Re: Cannot Search Anything

If you want a file that is already in the playlist to skip, just highlight it then press the skip button next to the delete button. Each press of the skip button alters it's status.
When you say songs a marked unavailable, is that because you have loaded a previouse playlist from your old computer ?

Re: Cannot Search Anything

Yes, the playlist is from the bkup. Can this not be done? Or how do I fix it?

Roy Dennis July 29th, 2011 06:21 PM

Re: Cannot Search Anything

This may not be fixable. As I said in previous post, unless all files and folders follow the same paths and drive volume letters the same as on previouse machine then they wont work. Unless anyone else knows a work around, I don't.
Or it may be that you haven't included all the folders in your rebuild.

Re: Cannot Search Anything

On your previous set up, Did you have all your song files on your computers c/ drive, or were they on an external drive, if so do you know what volume letter was allocated to this previous hard drive ?
This may help us to help you get things back as they were.

Re: Cannot Search Anything

Sorry Roy, it was on the c drive. But as for a letter? I am sorry what does this mean?

Roy Dennis July 29th, 2011 07:51 PM

Re: Cannot Search Anything

If you did not have your song files on an external drive before and you have placed them in your C/ drive this time then there should be no problem.
When you plug in an external drive like a usb drive, the computer allocates it a letter depending on what other things are connected at the same time. Like E,F or G in most cases.
So if you had them on an external drive that was assigned F, then on another computer it may assign it E then then Hoster can't find the files.
I'm now of to bed, Good luck with completing set up.

Tony, you're doing great at learning, and as always... Dale & Roy are awesome and accurate. :c :)

I don't want to come across as flipant or demeaning, but a lot of this is covered in the Hoster manual that installed with your Hoster 5.02.

If you have problems understanding the manual, or we have omitted any critical facts, PLEASE... post what you are looking for and we'll upgrade the manual for it to be there in 5.03. :w

Re: Cannot Search Anything - Needed to Build Songs Database on New Computer

Thanks but the problem was Ive been a customer and user since 2006. I had a 3.0 version which I was comfortable with and as I was dealing with Vista vs. windows 7 and I had a series of shows to do immediatly. I didnt have the time to go through the update manuals. But I appreciate your concern. Thanks to Dale and Roy I was able to piece together enough to get by this weekend. I will try to update myself with the new version. Thanks.
