Importing - Exporting to a New Laptop
 

Hi all,
I have an external hard drive with all the kars on a specific folder from my last laptop but I want to move it to my new laptop plus add some other songs I have on another folder and merge all together. I wonder if Hoster bring the files merge on the database to the C:\MTU\KMA folder so I will not need the external disk all the time hooked to my laptop. I also want to mention that my new laptop has a 750GB internal HD so I will not need to worry about space.
When you import MP3-G to the database that means it bring it to the database folder? if not is there any options there to move any imported files to the database folder?



Any ideas or recomendations?

Just copy the files from your old location to your new computer, suggest to the C/ MTU/ KMA folder. You can just use copy and paste.

Then the process differs according to which version of Hoster you have.

If you have the 4.xxx version or earlier click the Tools/Songs Database/Rebuild then press the ADD button and navigate to the folder you just placed your files in then press Rebuild. After doing this if you want to merge more songs select Tools/Songs Database/Add button instead of the rebuild button.

If you are using the new 5.01 version Tools/Songs database/Build Database use the Add Folder button and it will scan that folder and build the database there and then. If you then select another folder with your extra files in it will add those renumbering any duplicates.

First Hoster song files are KMA or KMH and not KAR. That is a different company's files and not usable in that format in Hoster.
Second Hoster doesn't move any of the files. If you want them all in the C:\MTU\KMA folder then you will have to move them all there manually and then rebuild the database with just that location as the only folder listed.
For your MP3+G, if you import them as KMA files with the destination folder as C:\MTU\KMA then Hoster will create a copy of the MP3+G with an added header and make it a KMA file in that folder. If you import them as KMH files then no it will not copy them. Instead it adds an additional small file with a KMH extension in the same folder.

So according for what I understand If I want to sync all my MP3-G's in only one folder I need to copy basically all my old library of MP3-G (Wich I all ready have) and also when I need to add a new disk or MP3-G (which some times I love to do this with Microstudio and separate the disk on folders) I need to copy first to the library folder before I sync the library?

Is there any other way to get a folder of MP3-G's songs (which I do with Microstudio first and put it on a folder) automatically moved to the main folder library (C:\MTU\) when you add songs on hoster?

The only way I can think of to do what you ask using Hoster 5.01, you need Microstudio installed on your new computer as well, then in Microstudio/Tools/Default Folder choose C/MTU/KMA.
That will auto save your files to the KMA folder, then you would probably have to use the Rescan button in Hoster's Build Database dialog after highlighting that folder first.

The problem with this idea is you could end up with all sorts of files in your KMA folder because this would be Microstudios default folder.

I still think it would be better to save your Microstudio files in a separate folder, then copy and paste them into your C/MTU/KMA folder, then highlight that folder in Hosters Build Database dialog and press the rescan button."

The following paragraph is printed in the Manuel:
"If you move files to a folder that is already indexed, click the "Rescan Folder" and the selected file Types are looked for, and when new ones are found, they are indexed with the next BookID"

As I said above if you import them as KMA (which is an option in the Index HD Files) and have the "Save to" set to C:\MTU\KMA then it will create the KMA copies in that folder. So no you do not have to copy them there as Hoster will do that. This does not move or destroy the original files, but makes a copy of it with a header modification required for Hoster.

Thanks! I will try tonight and see how this works. It will be good just to have the options to hoster move all the files to the library and it can check it if you all ready have that song on your library so it will not duplicate the song.
