Need Help With Hoster 4.32 ...
I am working on a friend's laptop with Hoster 4.32. It was working perfectly up until last Saturday night (6-4-11) and has been working fine for 2-3 months.
Starting last Saturday night, everytime you stop a song or Hoster ends a song, Hoster shuts down. I disabled Norton and then Hoster ran two songs with shutting down, but it still shut down at the end of the second song. Don't know where to go from here. Got any suggestions? It is a Toshiba with 4gb of RAM, Win 7 and is used only for Hoster. It has a 500 gb hard drive with only 75.3 gb used. More specs. listed below: Toshiba Satellite L-645-S4102 Dual Core Processor IntelŪ PentiumŪ Processor P6200 Operating System Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) Graphics Engine Mobile IntelŪ HD Graphics Graphics Memory 64MB-1696MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory. |
Re: Need Help With Hoster 4.32 ...
Have you tried restoring it to a date before this problem started ?
It may be related to an automatic update to something on his computer even a Microsoft update or Norton. If restoring to a previous time corrects the problem it may start trying to install the update again so check after each auto update to see if the problem returns. This will pinpoint the problem if restoring to earlier time solves the problem. You say that after disabling Norton the program shut down after 2nd song, I wonder if Norton is shut down properly. From reading post in the report Hoster 5.01 problems it seems that the Norton and some other virus program problems have been solved in that version, maybe a good idea to upgrade to that or perhaps try the demo. |

Re: Need Help With Hoster 4.32 ...
What was done or changed between the last good show and the one where problem started?
I would also suggest trying to uninstall Hoster and re-install it. Be sure you do that on-line. Is the Automatic Update turned on for this computer and the computer on-line when not doing shows? If so I would change it to notifications rather than auto installing. That way you know what is being installed in those updates. |
Re: Need Help With Hoster 4.32 ...
Dale & Roy,
I have no idea what changed between shows. My friend owns the Bar and this is his equipment. He has a young girl operating it and she knows only what I've taught her about Hoster. It could have possibly been an automatic update. I have instructed her and some others that operate his system to only run the show in Hoster and do not touch any background stuff! That is my job. I only take care of it as a friend! He is due Hoster 5 as a free upgrade. Do you that think if I upgrade his laptop, this will solve the problem? It was my plan to upgrade my system to Hoster 5 before I upgraded his, but MTU had a problem with PayPal Sunday when I paid for my ungrade and only got my registration straightened out yesterday. Since I have shows Thursday, Friday & Saturday, I won't upgrade my system until Sunday. I want some testing time (3 days at least) before I do a show after upgrading! |

Re: Need Help With Hoster 4.32 ...
Dale,
I've never done this before. Do you need to notify MTU before you do this? I "assume" you just uninstall and re-install it. I will try to do this tomorrow (Friday) afternoon. His computer is not needed until Saturday night, but I have a show Friday and Saturday nights, so if it doesn't go well, I'll (and he) will be up the creek!!! |
Re: Need Help With Hoster 4.32 ...
My opinion only, Mtu do not work week ends, if anything went wrong the earliest you would get an answer would be Monday therefore to be on the safe side I would wait till Monday or Tuesday.
As long as you are on line when you un-install you should not need to inform MTU. Then restore to the earlier date, after restoring to the earlier date you may find Hoster is still there and working so will not need to re- install. If not just re-install as normal. |
Re: Need Help With Hoster 4.32 ...
Roy,
I have that same concern, but I can't wait until Monday or Tuesday. It crashes after EVERY song now and he needs it Saturday night. I have no choice except to try to fix it tomorrow (Friday)... If I didn't already have a show myself, I'd use mine for him, but I'm tied up. |

Re: Need Help With Hoster 4.32 ...
Dale,
Unfortunately I did not have time to do it today (Thursday) and cannot do it until after lunch Friday! Since I have a Friday night show, if all doesn't go well ... then :m I guess I'm just going to have to cross my fingers. I checked and no updates have been documented by the computer since April, so I guess that rules that out!!! If the young lady did something to the computer to cause this problem, she isn't going to admit it and I wasn't there! |
Re: Need Help With Hoster 4.32 ...
Hopefully you have a backup computer in case you lose your show computer for whatever reason! I know not everybody has had a computer go down during a show, but you can salvage everything by being prepared for the worse! I always have a backup laptop with me when doing my shows... since Hoster ( other than Hoster Lite ) allows you to copy the program to a second computer, it's silly not to have a second system ready to replace a computer that is malfunctioning... Then you have emergency options!
So Backup, Restore, Re-install... Good Luck! |
Re: Need Help With Hoster 4.32 ...
Rikki,
There is NO backup computer in this case... Cross you fingers! |

Hopefully you get it all sorted out, and you can get your friend's computer restored to a happier time! Most of us have been there, and are just passing out hard earned knowledge, that will hopefully save the next guy/gal from incurring the same problem! |
Re: Need Help With Hoster 4.32 ...
Hey Guys,
I did an uninstall (4.32) and reinstalled Hoster (5) with no help at all!!! Everything went well with the download, but Hoster still crashes after EVERY song... OBTW, Hoster 4.32 was not available, so I had to install Hoster 5. Didn't really want to until I got this problem resolved, but had no option! From here ... completely Bumfuzzled... I have basically run out of time. This needs to be resloved by 8 pm Saturday night, but I have a show tomight, a Funeral tomorrow morning, a Birthday Party tomorrow afternoon and a show tomorrow night! I am willing to go to MTU in Raleigh (have been there twice) next week with the laptop if I have to. It's only ~90 miles from me. I just don't know where to go from here... |
Re: Need Help With Hoster 4.32 ...
Did you try going back and restoring? Date prior to when the problems started... you state that it worked perfectly for 2-3 months... did you save the Hoster.exe file for 4.32 version?
I have heard that the current Norton anti-virus is a bugger to remove, and maybe, just maybe, it is not easy to disable either... but I have AVG antivirus, and had a problem with Hoster 5.xx while beta testing, it would shut down a couple of times during a show, but not after every song! So I wouldn't think that is the problem, unless Norton updated something in the last week, that no one else is reporting a problem with! |

Sounds like they will have to skip karaoke for this Saturday night, since you don't have much time for working on this between now and then. You will have a better chance of putting in a support ticket and getting Support to connect to the laptop there and work with it. I am sending you a PM about this. You can download version 4.32 if they want to go back to that. It is in the Support section. There are several versions that can be used. Click on the Hoster button up top in the Support section. |
Re: Need Help With Hoster 4.32 ...
maybe this has something to do with windows media player, have you try upgrading it to latest version..
