As to your question, what version of Hoster and what operating system are you using?
Some information about your computer would help to for diagnosing the problem.

Re: hoster program is closing

First thing is to do the things listed on this link:
http://www.mtu.com/upgrades/hoster/windows7-changes.htm

Actually having only 6 shutdowns in 5 months isn't much at all, especially using such an old version. Hoster release is now up to version 4.32 and a lot has been added and fixed since version 4.0.

I just went to windows 7 and have the up to date Hoster program, and last night while doing a show the Hoster program shut down twice, and this is not the first time. Why? Thanks Jim:f

Re: hoster program is closing

Since Hoster integrates with a lot of things in the computer and software, that isn't an easy question to answer.
What were you doing at the time it shutdown?
Do you have any other programs open?
What is the speed of your processor and how much Ram do you have?
Did you do all the updates/changes required for Hoster to run correctly?
What else is on the computer that may be running in the background?
Is this an upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista or a new full install?

Re: hoster program is closing

ddouglass, to answer your ?'s I had just finished a song, it seems to shut down after a song has finished, thank goodness.
1. maybe the song search not sure, but when I had windows XP did not have this problem.
2. The speed of the processor and ram, I don't believe is the problem like I said had no problem with XP. Not sure what the speed and ram is till I set up tomorrow.
3. All is updated. Put in all the updates when I went to windows 7.
4. Nothing was running in the back ground. outside of song search.
5. Windows 7 was a full install.
I have my computer mirrored with two 640gb hard drives.

Re: hoster program is closing

Is the mirror program running while you are running Hoster? If so then this is what I was referring to for a program running in the background.
If you changed this computer from XP to Windows 7 then yes the processor speed and Ram amount could be significant. What is good enough for XP is not necessarily enough for Win 7.
Are you running Background Audio?

Jim Sargent October 17th, 2010 12:07 AM

Re: hoster program is closing

No audio in the background, I will have to check the the ram and process speed it may have to be bumped up.
Thanks Jim
I will keep you informed.

Did you go through this list of required changes for Windows 7?

I went Through the changes, made all of them. My processer is a Intel(R) core(Tm) 2 Duo cpu E8500 @3.17GHz
Ram is 2.00 GB.
So i really don't think this is the problem.
Everything worked ok on XP as far as raid goes. We will find out Wed. night if all the other changes make a differance.
Thanks Jim
P.S. will let you know if it still shuts down:?

That may be true but you have moved to a much larger operating system. Your 2GB is the bare minimum for Win 7 and MTU recommends 4 GB.

Re: hoster program is closing

You guys are not the only ones having this "Hoster Shutdown" problem. It's been haunting me for months... Fortunately, it only does it in between songs and you can start right back up!

It went away for a while and now it's back and I did nothing to my Computer in between (no upgrades, etc.)!

I'm not sure MtU "can" fix this problem because it is an intermittent problem that doesn't seen to have any rhyme or reason! I'm not saying they have not tried, but in order to fix bugs, you've gotta first catch'em!!!

I have updated/upgraded everything recommended to me and the problem still persists! One thing that I did that "seemed" to help was to quit using BA (Background Audio) altogether. When I did, that's when it seemed to go away for a while.

I've just accepted the fact that it's going to happen and I have to live with it...

You are correct that we must re-create the problem to solve it. We have fixed MANY MANY MANY intermittent problems over time with facts.

If you give us as many facts as you can such as what type of file you were playing in the Playlist before the crash, Hoster version, Windows OS, etc. then we will add it with facts from others and eventually a picture will appear and we can nail it.

Say we can't solve it and don't give us any facts and only emotions and by golly your prediction will come true! :f Facts please... :r

How many songs are in your BA folder that you open? We only show the first 200, but if you have thousands there, it could create problems. Also, what type of files (MP3, WMA, ???) are you playing in BA? Is it always the same song in BA that causes a crash?

Recently we were sent an MP3 file purchased from Amazon (they have 13 million I understand :e :c). It uses a 151Kb compression. This is new, and was not supported by Windows Media Player not far back. It would not burn to a disc in Microstudio, and Songverter would not convert it to another format (we use the WMP SDK - Software Developers Kit - to decompress MP3 and WMA files). Once our client upgraded to our latest versions of Microstudio and Songverter, everything worked fine.

I checked your Account and you are running 431.9 so you have the latest "bug fixes". Facts can help us identify the problem.

WE HATE CRASHES!!! Thus, we WILL do everything in our power to solve them, if you work with us. :w

Re: hoster program is closing

I hate to add to this.......... I LOVE B/A and bragged about using it when it first came out.... but started having problems with B/A causing crashes after 4.2, which I reported immediately. I keep updating & keep trying, but I still can't run more than 1/2 a Show before crashing .............. and this ONLY HAPPENS when running B/A. I can go all night long, including importing singers's disk, as long as I don't run B/A. I know you think it's my AMD, but others with AMD report not having problems, but then again they say they don't run B/A, sooooooooo????????????????????:?:r

I neglected to add that I only have a dozen MP3 songs in the Break folder I use in B/A. I have come to the conclusion that my computer just isn't powerful enough to DO IT ALL. Like you've said before, Intel is a faster processor. The person who says they don't have any problems with their AMD doesn't import Singers Disk or run B/A and its 3.GHz. Neither do I, until I import more than a dozen Singers disks and have B/A on too that halfway through the Show it will crash (I also keep the Search & Singers windows open at the same time).

In summary, I think it comes down to computer requirements as to how many features can be run at the same time.

Re: hoster program is closing

Just wondering if there has been any progress about hoster closing problem. I had this problem a few times over the past couple of months. Last night it happened three time during a show. I do not run BA so I can eliminate this as a reason. I have just re-checked all of my settings and they are what is recommended for Hoster.
I am using a HP Pavilion dv7 Laptop Windows 7 os i3 CPU 4gb Ram 64 bit 550 gb Hard Drive.
My VM is set at 3055 with a max size of 4096.(Does this need changed?)
I have my music stored on my hard drive approx 16200 songs, I do not import singers disks during a show.
The problem appears ramdomly and I can re-open Hoster with out losing singers songs.
I'm not sure any of this info will help with the problem/fix, but I thought I would pass it along.
The version of Hoster I am using is 4.32
If there is additional info you need, please let me know.

Re: hoster program is closing

Harry,

I too am still having the same problem. It happened twice Thursday night, but I've just learned to live with it. I cannot correlate it to any particular song or any other action at the time it stops, so I just haven't continued to report it. Some shows it doesn't stop at all...

In order for them to be able fix a problem, you need to be able to pinpoint it and I can't!

The good thing is it has never stopped during a song, it only stops between songs.

I stopped using BA several months ago, but it still happens. I use Windows Media Player and it works fine for me and it can randomly play more than 200 songs on the list.

Harry Reid December 18th, 2010 05:23 PM

Re: hoster program is closing

Yea I really can't pinpoint it either, but I thought some info about my PC would maybe narrow it down, (settings type of pc ?) There did not seem to be very many people with the problem (or at least that wrote in about it so I thought maybe it was my settings). I'll keep checking to see what song I was playing or how long I have been playing or whatever to see if it might help them zero in on the problem.
Thanks for the reply
