Hoster Not Playing Audio Songs

Something is not letting me play mp3's or wma's through Hoster. The play light lights up but the timer does not move and no audio. Using 4.31

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Kelly:?

What Version were you using before you upgraded? Did audio work for you then? If you upgraded from a very old version, did you do all the Updates first?
There were no reported problems with Audio while testing. Are you "adding" through the Audio button, or are these kma's?

What operating system are you using?
Is it just Audio files and are these imported or from the Audio button on the main screen?
Are these audio files imported to the computer through Windows Media Player?
Have you checked the Audio Controls and make sure the correct Audio Card is chosen?

Re: Hoster Not Playing Audio Songs

Windows XP.

Yes. From the audio button. They are mostly wma files. Some mp3's.

And yes they were imported using Media Player. They are on the same external drive as my kma files. Just a different folder. They seemed to have stopped working with Hoster 4.30.

Re: Hoster Not Playing Audio Songs

All I know is that I had tried importing some with WMP. WMP would not let them play on anything except WMP. It has to do with the DRM settings. Others have told me they had no problem, but I did. So I always import them with Microstudio, then convert them from WAV to WMA or MP3 with Songverter. If there is a setting in WMP to turn off I can't find it.

I take it they still play in Windows Media player?
As Dale suggested From the Tools Tab/Audio controls check your Playlist Audio card is showing correct and if there is anything showing in the search audio panel try swapping them over.

Re: Hoster Not Playing Audio Songs

Yes they'll play in Windows Media. I'll check on the other card. And what is really weird, last night all of a sudden one song did play, but when I stopped it and tried to load it and play again, it didn't.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll try it again when I get home from work.

Dale there is a tick box in windows media players Options/Rip tab as shown in my attachment.
This is printed in media player help files:

What happens if I decide to copy protect music that I rip?
If you copy protect the tracks that you rip from a CD, then you will need media usage rights to play, burn, or sync the ripped files. If you copy the files to another computer and try to use them, you might be prompted to download media usage rights for that computer. You can download media usage rights for ripped files only a limited number of times.
If you intend to use your ripped music on multiple computers, don't copy protect the files. If you want to limit the distribution of any songs that you rip, turn on copy protection before ripping. You can't remove copy protection from a file once it has been applied. Copy protection is available only when you rip music to the Windows Media Audio (WMA) format.

Re: Hoster Not Playing Audio Songs

Thanks Roy, but no, they weren't copy protected. They were just cd's that I had imported through windows media player on my desktop and then just transferred them to my laptop that I use for hoster.

They have always worked until about Hoster 4.30. Been trying to figure out what changed and then when 4.31 came out I thought that might fix it.

As I said I'll experiment more at home tonight. I'll let you all know what I find.

Just one other point to check. Are you using Windows Media player Version 11 as recommended in the updates for the new Hoster 4.30 & 4.31 ?

Re: Hoster Not Playing Audio Songs

Okay,

Yes I have windows media 11. I can go into my external drive and go to my wma folders and click on a song and it will play in windows media.

It will NOT play when I click the audio button on Hoster and try to play anything from my wma folder. As I said previously, the green play lights up but the time counter does not move and no music.

I did go to the Tools Tab/Audio controls and checked my Playlist Audio card.

My "play list audio card " is a : SB Xtreme Audio Notebook.
My "search audio card" is a: Sigma Tel Audio.

I tried switching them and it made no difference.

Re: Hoster Not Playing Audio Songs

This is baffling since I also have WMP 11 and am using XP and both WMA and MP3 files play fine.

Try importing one CDs worth through Microstudio and see if the WAV files will play.

Okay, Thanks I'll try that.

This is very baffling. I think what you need to do is put in a Support Ticket. Add in your description that Dale thinks they need to look at your computer. They have a way they can remote into your computer to see if they can find the problem. They will have to call you to make the arrangements.

It is just not possible for us to be able to figure this out beyond what we have asked you to try and check without being able to see the computer. I am sure it is something simple we are over-looking.

Thanks Dale!

I may do that. Like you I am sure it's a little thing. But it sure is aggravating!

Just an idea ........ but have you tried to use only 1 Audio Card for everything rather than just switching? Disable one of them & see what happens.:r

Re: Hoster Not Playing Audio Songs

Just out of curiosity, if you have an audio cd import it through Microstudio, convert those files in Songverter to WMA or MP3 and then try playing them through Hoster. This still sounds like a DRM problem. I had this problem a while back when I first started adding audio files to Hoster. Because the files were imported through WMP with the DRM turned on then they would not play in Hoster.

I agree with the others... this sounds like a DRM problem.

Please submit a support ticket and attach one of your smaller wma files so we can diagnose it.

Am I right that your MP3 files play fine, but WMA's are giving you problems?
