Duel Display

I am having trouble with this new system changing monitors 1 & 2.
1 should be DJ computer monitor and 2 should be singers monitor (TV).

When I start the system sometimes it changes and I get no color on singer monitor. It takes forever to get it to change back and then everything is fine again.

I have changed settings in windows display properties and also in NVidia control panel. And suggestions. My dell laptop never did this.

Re: Duel Display

First, Which operating system are you using XP, Vista or windows 7 ?
Which, version of Hoster the latest is 4.30 ?

Are you saying that sometimes when you start the extended screen gets swapped with the desktop screen or is it just that you lose the colour to black & white.
If it is the latter I should check your svideo lead, it could be a bad connection or the wrong type, apparently there are 2 types of svideo connectors, a 4 pin and a 7 pin I think, the most common is the 4 pin.

I am using XP, Hoster 4.22 and when the displays switch then the singers monitor is B&W. As soon as I can get it to switch back then everything is OK. I'm not even sure what I do to get it to switch back. I restart the system a few times and it's fixed.

Re: Duel Display

It sounds like a bad connection somewhere to me. Have you tried a different svideo lead ?
If it's not the lead maybe it is to do with the connectors on the graphics card. Try removing your graphic card and reinsertin it or if you have another spare graphic card try that.

I take it you are only extending to a single external monitor, if you are extending to multiple monitors it could be a drop in power and you would need a video boosting amplifier.

Re: Duel Display

Roy, I am using a video amplifier, and I have tried a new s-video cord. Let me try to explain the problem better.

If I go to display setup, and hit 'identify' Main (computer) monitor should always be 1 and singers (TV) monitor should always be 2. When they are , everything is fine. Sometimes they get switched and It takes forever to get them back (the part I don't understand).

After reading your answers, I now wonder if this new video card is bad. I guess I will have to buy a new one. (Suggestions on the best one to get welcome) to check if that is the problem. Or I need to figure out how to stop them from changing.

1 Attachment(s)
I had them switch on me once although it didn't cause mine to only show black & white, I set it right by the nvidea controls and then had to come back to the display properties and alter that as well, mine has stayed right ever since. This is the path I used to get to the Controls to change the displays from the nvidea control panel. I did see in your post # 1 that you may have tried this. With your extended monitor connected right click the blank area of your desktop select properties/settings/advanced/then your geforce tab, you should see a window pop out on one side like in my attachment select "Nview display settings" and you should see a display like my attachment.(This is how it should be) Although this is from an earlier gforce card so maybe different to yours.
When I had a similar problem I found it was showing the extended as 1 and computer as 2 even though they were showing correct in the the display properties page.
If you do find them reversed after correcting them then you have to go back to the display properties screen and then it may be necessary to reverse these but not before you correct the ones from the nView settings.

If the above doesn't help have you tried rolling back the driver or searching for an updated one.

Roy.

Re: Duel Display

I too have had this happen a couple times. All I did was to check the "Set this as the Primary monitor and they switched back. As Roy said I had to also adjust the resolutions.

Re: Duel Display

Thanks guys, I will try this and see what happens. If it still does not correct the problem, I will try changing video cards.:)
