Rebuild database on ver. 3.316

I am trying to rebuild a database on an old computer that I have Hoster version 3.316 on. I am doing this from an external hard drive that has songs that were edited using the 4.xx version of Hoster including silence removal. I get the error parameter incorect starting on the first song. Is it possible that I will not be able to rebuild unless I upgrade to version 4.22?

It is possible and probable. Version 4 added more information (bytes) to the header part of the KMA, that the older versions will not know what to do with them. Those songs will have to be re-imported from the originals into the 3.316 version if you want to use them.

I was afraid of that. Thanks for the quick reply. I didn't want to upgrade since this is just a backup but I guess I will.

I don't know about 3.16 but I just tried it with 3.321 and that version does import the .kma files from version 4.22. Obviously it will not import any of the other types with the .kmh extention.

I was able to upgrade to 3.321 but still cannot rebuild my database. All files are KMA.

Had the songs you tried been run through "Remove Silence" in 4.22? I think this may be his problem area. If those values are null then 3.3xx shouldn't see them, but if they are set to a value then this may cause a problem.

Dale
Just been rechecking this. I originally tried it by just copying about 200 files into a test folder to try it, this folder had a mixture of files most had s&e files set there were about 15 files that didn't have silence removed but they all rebuilt. Now since then I have tried it with the original folder with about 10.000 files in and the rebuild got to around 505 out of the 10,000 and gave me the perimeter incorrect warning, so there must be something different that the earlier version can't read.

But what Bob might be able to try is copying the Songs.mbd file and pasting it into the earlier version of Hoster, for this to be able to work the external drive path must be the same as used on the computer with 4.22 on.

I have just tried this but the version I tried it with was 4.21 which is still on my show computer with the kma on external drive E and it seems to work OK but I can't try it with version 4.22 as all my files are on the c drive of that computer.

Roy.

Re: Rebuild database on ver. 3.316

I have upgraded to 4.22 and the database built as it should. So I guess Dale was right. Songs loaded with SE will not work with the versions prior to 4.XX. This is a vista comp. with only 1G ram so I am running hoster with only the bare min. of features activated. I'm currently running a test show and so far every thing is fine. Thanks to everyone who responded.

There were a couple other additions to the header too that may have been effecting this, but my old feeble brain can't remember exactly what they were right now.:s You will be happier with the same version on both computers anyway as then you won't lose anything if you have to switch during a show.:g

Thanks Dale. As I mentioned earlier this comp is vista with only 1G ram, but I have been running a test for about 2 hours so far (just using the bare min of features) and everything is working great.

Should be ok, if you leave the BA off and don't use Visualizations. Let me guess no upgrade of memory for that computer available?

No. It was one of the first comps with vista on it but its been a pretty good one.
