horizontal roll

I do not like this software....after 6 months of correcting the titles and artists, now I seem to experience horizontal roll on "some" monitors. This doesn't happen on all monitors...it is fine on my home HD TV, but not at the bar's HD TV....It also rolls on my small portable 13". I've tried changing the HZ setting already, no help. ANYONE?

horizontal problem cont.

I am using the Grandtec, PC to TV video component. Is this the correct product to be using?

First the Horizontal roll does not have anything to do with the program. This is a video output problem. Meaning it could be the video card, any converter?amplifier you are using, or even the cables.
What type of computer (laptop or desktop)?
What output are you using from the computer (S-Video, RCA, VGA, or HDMI)?
Are you using any type of converter/amplifier?
What kind of cables are you using between computer and monitors?
How long are the cables going to the monitors?

What changes are you having to spend 6 months on for titles and artists?

Dale is right, your horizontal problem has nothing to do with the program, you said on the other post that you're using some kind of a converter, if i'm not mistaken i have the same one,and i havent had any problems with it..either on the back side or the on the side of that converter there's an adjustment ( can't remember what side i dont have my gears w/me ) but you can adjust those..i stand corrected i have the same one as Roy.

My guess would be to say no this is not the right component. For one it is not set up to go to multiple devices or for any distance from the converter. Yes it has several differnet types of outputs but not for simultaneous use. The reason I say that is it has no amplification of the signal out.
It does not have it's own power source but feeds from the computer which is only a 5V source. Not much power to keep a signal very strong and bad for your computer especially if it is a laptop.
They even state that it will not work with most large screen HDTVs which I would guess is what the bar has.
You might want to read their support document as you may need to make some adjustments to your video card to get some TVs to work without the Horizontal roll. One thing they suggest is to set the card to a 60HZ refresh rate which is more common in TVs.

All hardware was recomended and purchased from MTU: Ruggedized laptop, PC to Video Component (no mention of amplification in the book)
Cables are VGA from Laptop to converter, and RCA (yellow) from converter to 13 in and HDTV
changes: when i imported the cds many were titles and artists came back as unknown, first name last name, or just wrong.

MTU does not know what kind of setup you are going use. The equipment they sell is general and not necessarily enough for a complete hook-up. The converter that they sell and you purchased is just that and is not made to split between two monitors.
Because you are going to use two, you need a splitter/amplifier to get this to work correctly, for all song files. I too have had this problem with a couple brands that use some very bright backgrounds. Radio Shack has an inexpensive one that is for one RCA in and up to 8 RCA out. Add this in line between the converter and the monitor. I would also recommend you get shielded cables such as Monster cables though there are other brands that are not quite as expensive. Both of these changes completely cleared up my problems.

Then in that case you were using the "on-line" search database. This is not controlled by MTU, but is a pass through link to FreeDB, a free on-line database that uses inputs from individuals. The bad part is they do not have very many of the Karaoke discs information and they require that the Artist be in the First Name Last Name format.
Had you used the built-in "Local" database, you would have found many more of the Karaoke Discs listed aand the Artist would have been in Last Name, First Name. You should have asked about it sooner and we could have saved you a few of yours problems.

Mr ddouglass, I purchased the Radio Shack the amplifier and it fixed my problem. I used the produce for the first time last night. For the most part I was happy. I am sure there is more to learn and get familiar with. I will look for the Monster cables but what I have did work. I did have some singers complaining of the color of the words. They were hard to see. The red on black and other labels that have odd combinations. Can you help or since you are the experienced one here, should I start a new thread? Thank you so much for your help.

This is Rikki Tikki and not DDouglas, but maybe can help a little... now that you have your signal amplified with the RS Product, go back to your Grandtec converter and play with the Brightness, Hue, Contrast controls, to make fine adjustments to help solve your Resolution Control of the on-screen lyrics... I have had faint letters ( usually white ) show up on some of the cdg manufacturers from a while back. The odd coloration, could be satisfied for your clientele if you tweak the converter controls, so that the singer display matches your computer monitor... don't discount the use of good quality connections, and cabling in repairing this issue... use the knowledge of the KJ Vets that are trying to help you, without incurring the same problems, that we too, at one time had to overcome! We were all there once !!!:w

Good Luck!

The colors are set by the producers of the Karaoke songs. There is nothing that can be done by MTU or us to change that. So they will just have to complain, but tell them there is nothing you can do about that.

This tells me right away it's a connection problem. You should always always use the best possible cables you can afford. A cheap cable will be your worst nightmare. I've seen all to often guys who have spent $1000's of dollars on computers, rack gear, speakers, mixers ...just to hook them up with junk cables. I build all my own audio cables, i use bulk canare or mogami quad audio cable, terminated with switchcraft, or neutrik connectors. :)

Does the adapter that you are using come with a menu button with settings for color correction ? As mine does. Other than that there are ways to improve your color settings on extended monitors in windows 7.

First connect your external monitor then right click a blank area of your desktop, from the box that opens select Screen resolution, The window should show 2 monitors side by side, select the extended window And right click it, from the box that opens select properties, now a window should open with various tabs on the top, select "color management" Then there is another box with a button to click color management. From the window that opens make sure that display 2 is showing in the devices window then click advanced. from the bottom of that window you should see an option "Calibrate display" Then follow the on screen instructions.

The notes below I copied from the windows help file. Which you can find by clicking Start/help & support and typing in "display color calibration" this will guide you through the process

Calibrate your display

What is Display Color Calibration?

Notes
  • If you have a display calibration device that came with other software, consider using the color measurement device with the accompanying software instead of Display Color Calibration. Using the calibration device with the accompanying calibration software that often comes with it can help you get the best color on your display. In general, using a color measurement instrument to calibrate your display will result in a better calibration compared to the results of doing a visual calibration (which is done in Display Color Calibration).
Hope this helps

Roy.

Re: horizontal roll

Not sure about any of that technical stuff. Took me 6 mo's of my daughter teaching me, just to remember how to turn a computer on. But i know for a fact, that color sure varies from one television set, or even monitor to another. Walk into your local walmart sometime to the {gag} electronics dept. Walk by all those big screen vizeo's and sony, and sanyo 40 incher's....:t

But on a more interesting note. Back when i was disc based. I have had the lyrics on the same cdg disc, appear a slightly different color from one karaoke player to the next. Chartbuster was notorius for this. Chartbuster lyrics on my Pioneer player, a slightly golden color, JVC yellow, VocoPro light nasty brown almost. I know...i know...that's not what dale meant. But hoster is very consistent with my JVC triple drawer player as far as graphic and lyric colors and displays...none better then hoster.:)

I think Rikki and Dennis are probably on the right track. There are also adjustments on the TVs themselves for Hue also that may need to be adjusted if it is good on one and not on the other. As far as Hoster, it only puts out exactly what colors are put in which no adjustments there for hue.
