4.22 install/no audio tip

:)Just wanted to give a tip to anyone who installs Hoster 4.22 and all of a sudden doesn't have any audio when playing a song. I installed 4.22 because of synch problems with 4.21 that were corrected by>Hoster>tools>options>-0.6>save. I thought 4.22 would address that and get it back to 0.0. Tried to play a couple songs to test, and I had no audio. It seems that it takes your audio device out, but only from Hoster. You can still play on Windows Media Player. To correct this, go to Hoster>tools>audio controls> and towards the bottom it says playlist audio card, hit the down arrow button to open the card menu. If you have more than one, you'll have to try them all out until you find the right one, usually the first one on the list. I finally got the sound back, but when I tested the songs, I had to keep the offset at -0.6 for the lyrics to stay in synch. Not a big problem for me cause it works. Hope this will help someone that runs into the same problem.:)

Re: 4.22 install/no audio tip

Version 4.22 will not fully correct all of the offset sync problems of the past as a lot of this depends on the sound card. However it should fix the first song in sync and rest out of sync issue that was showing up mainly with Windows 7.
Should not have changed the setting for which card is used. Only way I can see this happening (unless it is a bug) is if the one you were using was not the default card. I will pass that on to MTU for them to check.

Doug, this is the very reason I never downloaded 4.21 to correct problems with 4.20. I haven't checked the mtu community sight since June 11th in hopes that the reports about 4.21 would be positive but apparently not. Do you see why I was so vocal several weeks ago about bugs. Okay no ranting on this subject, I will wait till the glowing revues come in on the fix's. Still get shut downs. Seperate question: I have khpro, microstudio. If I want to edit a karaoke track (.kma) so I can elongate the track or snip a few bars out and copy them to create an ending instead of the dreaded fade out can I do this editing with the existing software? Is there one I can purchase from MTU?

ED. Are you aware of MTU's new upgrade policy ?
You could lose out if you wait too long to upgrade and end up paying for something you could have got free. Read as in the link.
http://www.mtu.com/support/info.htm#UpgradePolicy

As I have stated before, if you upgrade for free (Within 12 Months) and find you don't like it you can always go back to your original version providing you keep a copy of the install file.
As to your other problem, no you cant shorten the original .Kma with any MTU software directly. KHpro can copy the original sound track but you would have to add your own lyrics and if you have a lot of tracks it would take you a long time.
Much better using the remove silence feature in Hoster.

Roy.

Hey Dale, I don't know why it did that. It also happened with 4.21. I've got it all working again. It never happened before 4.21.

Ok Emilio I'll pass it on and maybe they can find out why it didn't stay through the upgrade.

Ed if you are expecting a program to be totally without some problems for any computer available, then you will be waiting a long time. Because the program didn't save which audio card to use when it was upgraded for 4.22 and can be very easily reset and is persistent after that is a reason to not upgrade? Its your option to upgrade or not.
No one has reported any shutdowns with 4.22 yet, so take it however you want.

Thanx for passing it on Dale. Like I said before, something must be different starting with 4.21, because it never happened before, and now it's happened with both 4.21 & 4.22. But this is minor, at the most a small inconvenience. And you're correct, once you reset the audio card, it is persistent. I just don't understand why people are so hesitant to try this because of a small glitch that is easily correctable. As far as I'm concerned, you can't do any better than this. This past Saturday, I had a musician who is also one of my singers sit down next to me. He was interested in seeing what I was doing, and how everything functioned. I gave him a quick rundown, and after watching for a while, he went away very impressed with the ease and capabilities of Hoster. My customers always remark on the marquee when I put messages on it like Happy Birthday, Anniversary, and so on, and they love the fact that they can come up to me and request a song and I have it ready to play within seconds. They also enjoy the Instabutton sound fx and that I can get through a rotation so much quicker than other places they've been to before. Hoster is the best by far!!!:g

Billyo, sorry to hear about your problems with 4.22. I too have the synch problem, but I can correct it with the offset, so that's alright by me. I haven't had any of the rapid stutter, crashing and low volume that you're talking about. Now I did have a major problem not last weekend, but the 3 weekends before that. Hoster would freeze when I hit play. It would stay on "cue". All 3 weekends I would test Hoster before I wrapped it up to go to my gigs, and everything worked fine. When I got to my gig and started Hoster, I would test it before I started and it froze again. I had to run the show with Microstudio which worked, but it's kind of a pain because you can't search for songs while a singer is singing. I have music in 3 different folders and I would have to search for the correct folder in between songs which is time consuming. Well anyway, I found out what the problem was, and it wasn't Hoster. It was low power coming from the outlet. Hoster was trying, but it didn't have enough juice. I pretty much suspected it had to do with power since I had power problems (power would go out for 15-30 seconds) every once in awhile. I even brought my HEAVY UPS to plug in so if it happened again, I'd have time to shut down instead of a hard boot. The reason I'm telling you about this is could it be possible you might have some of those same circumstances happening to you? Anyway, hopefully you get it all straightened out.

thanks for the adviced, but i don't think it's the power, since i was able to upgrade my show laptop,( 2nd time ) and i dont have the sync, and stutter problems anymore, , just wondering why would the kmh files works without dragging the volume all the way up, while the vcd had to be dragged way up, i still have v4.21 on my back-up and i could play both files w/o dragging the volume up.i am not able to see if i could install the upgrade on my back-up, since i am in the middle of packing all my gears , getting ready to move into a new house.

Re: 4.22 install/no audio tip

I just installed the 4.22 upgrade last night and opened Hoster up. I started a song that I added to the playlist and no sound. I checked the volume on the laptop, the volume in the sound control panel, etc. Moving the sliders I had sound, but nothing from the song playing in Hoster. Hitting the instabutton, however, caused that sound to play. So I closed up Hoster, opened it back up and it's worked ever since.

Re: 4.22 install/no audio tip

Hey Deeter, glad you got it working. I have a desktop with multiple audio cards, and I found that when I installed 4.21 and 4.22, it switched the audio card. I didn't try to reboot to see if that would fix it, but instead finangled with the audio cards until I found the right one. I did find out that by using the card that works with Hoster and Windows Media Player, I have no sound on Microstudio, certain games, and video you get on the web. When I switch to the one that works with Microstudio, then I have no audio on Hoster or Windows Media Player. I'm going to check into this shortly, but in the meantime I can live with it.
