I have my songs on F and an external HD G. I would like to be able to switch over to G in a hurry if F ever went out. Am I able to do this??? I'm thinking I could go to tools, Song Database, Rebuild Songs Database, Add Folder ( I have F, so I would add G) Highlight G and then hit Rebuild Songs Database. I guess after rebuilding G, I could close out hoster and it would go to F, since it's first on the list. Has anyone done this? Does this sound right.

i think if you plug in the G drive to the same usb port hole where the F drive is plugged, it might work w/o rebuilding the song database.and if this doesn't work, then yes you gonna have to rebuild , and also you can search the forum ,there is thread on "how to change the drive letter", which is easier and faster than rebuilding you song database just in case something happens to your F drive while playing

The way I am reading this is that F: is an internal drive and G: is an external. If that is the case then no it won't work as you state.
You cannot have both in the Rebuild list at the same time. If you do you will get a duplicate for each song file you have. In addition the Rebuild uses all drive folders listed, so highlighting one or the other does not change how it works.
Basically, there is no fast way to switch from one location to the other.
To switch between the 2 drives you would have to remove the F: drive from the Rebuild list and add the G: drive to the list then rebuild. Depending on how many files you have the time to rebuild will increase the more you have.
If they are both external drives and the folder(s) for your song files are exact duplicates including the name of the folder then as Billyo said you should be able to swap out the drives without having to rebuild. This would have to be done while the computer is off and using the same USB plug, so that both drives come up as F:.

I keep F (internal) and G (external) duplicated and up to date all the time, with a duplicating software. So, I think what you're saying is if F messed up, delete it from the box and install G to the box, and I wouldn't have to rebuild, because it's exactly the same as F. Right??

i don't understand why your internal drive is F: drive, it should be a C:drive, external drives are usually F: G: & E: , if you're going to replace F: ( internal ) with a G:( external ) once you put the G: drive in, that might turn to a C:drive and you won't be able to fid any of your files , and like Dale said you gonna have to delete F & G and and click on C and rebuild you song database, maybe i'm wrong but in my thinking that might happen. and if F: drive is your internal drive your OS in it, you wont be able to run your pc without it. do you have a 2 bay hhd slot , if thats the case yes you can swap it providing both hhd's are the same exact duplicate.

In my laptop I have a C, but I also installed a second HD because C wasn't large enough.

i have a suggestion, why don't you just clone your C: drive to a bigger drive ( 500gb) and copy all your file ( songs ) in it after cloning, then keep your F: drive as a back-up ,and leave it to where it is now on the same spot, it'll be easier, this way you don't have to removed it if something happens.. i am cloning my laptops 250g drive to a 500g drive as we speak ( typing ).

My C drive is only 100 MB. My F drive is 320. I have two hard drives in my laptop. My songs are 160 MB. That's why I have them in F and an external HD.

do you mean 100GB ?..is it full? you know you have to have at least 15gb in order for you to be able to do system restore, just incase something happens, so you can revert back to where your laptop used to work properly, less than that, you're stucked w/the problems, if i were you i will cloned that c: drive to bigger drive like i did, i just got done cloning my laptops C:drive from 250gb to a Seagate Momentus 500gb i just got it for $106 inc. taxes, i now have 401 gb free space, in which all my dj tunes are stored, and all my kma files are on a 500 gb ext. drive in which i have 284gb free space left and i also have a back-up, a 500gb ext. drive.

I don't understand what your trying to say!!! I have a laptop that has two hard drives inside. My kma files are on the 320GB drive, because I have 160GB of kma files. I also have an external drive that is a mirror image of my 320GB drive.

No that is not what I was saying. You will have to rebuild each time you switch. The not having to rebuild would apply only for 2 external drives. Since one is internal and one external then you will have to rebuild.

You might try using the "manage" utility and change the drive letters around. I have had success doing this in XP, but don't know about Vista & 7. I'm upgrading all machines to 7 Ultimate now and will advise.
