Can't stop process in Windows 7

· Toshiba Satellite Laptop
· 2 Gig duel core processor
· 4 Gig of memory
· Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
· ATI RADION HD3650/W 512 mb
Hoster 4.11

Let’s start by saying that I don’t think this is a problem with Hoster, but it is causing me problems with Hoster. When purchased, this machine had Vista. I ran Hoster and Traktor on the same machine with almost no problems, then for some reason I decided to upgrade to W7. That’s when the problem started.
Once or twice a night Hoster stops responding and just hangs. When this happens I try to use task manager to end Hoster, doesn’t work. I have tried to use PSKILL to end the process, doesn’t work. The only way I can clear Hoster is to reboot. Of course this takes a lot more time than simply ending the process and reopening Hoster.
Has anyone experienced this with Hoster or any other programs in Windows 7? Anyone with any ideas on a fix?
Thanks in advance:?

I've experience the same kind of hang up on my new 4.11 installation but was able to end the Hoster program through task manager, but I have XPro.

Not sure why this happens, but it does, I will try to set larger paging file on all the external drives and see what happens.

One thing I can say is that the recommended Drv c:\ page was 4605, but when I press the set button a message said that I can only set it to 4095, so I'm not sure what this all means?

Xpro os, T9500 Duo, 4 Gig Mem, nVidea 8600 GT VidCrd 512 Mb, Int. Drv 250 Gig 7200 rpm @ 50%

Did you try to stop the Hoster.exe process instead in the applications tab? That will usually stop any program when the underlying process is killed.

Yes, and also used PSKILL neither would kill it.

After you upgraded did you do the set-up steps again that you did in Vista?

You may not have full admin privileges currently and this will help with that.

No, not in the process tad but in the application tab in task manager, How would that make any difference?

Also I notice while testing the import singers disc.through my Int. Drv., the Hoster screen lyric slows down and the sound output is very distorted on import as soon as I cancel the problem go's away.

I then figured that something in my DVD registry was corrupted and causing this to happen, though I don't remember having this problem with 4.6., so I went into the DVD registry key and deleted the upper and lower filters rebooted and tried again and got the same results.

I always use this drv. for import without any problems for close to two years now with Hoster and microstudio, and the test in 4.11 was good?

I then tried this process using my Ext. Plextor Drv. and all was good throughout the entire import?

What can be the problem, any idea, I like to get this Int. DVD prob. fixed.

Thanks

Joe....

i had the same problem, my internal drives ( both on my show and back-up laptops ) won't work importing singers disc, i use my ext. drive and it worked, no problems no slowing down , no distortion...

Thanks Billy, but I never had this problem before (Not Blaming Hoster Now) just making a point that I experienced not having this issue before with my internal DVD player, It still imports and reads CDG Disc., but now the sound distortion thing is getting to me as to why? :?

I need to find a solution, I don't want to lug my plextor around to my Gig's when I didn't have to do it before. :f

Can anyone help with this?

Thanks

Joe...

This sounds like a problem to pose to Microsoft. Windows 7 is a whole new ballgame and there is no telling what bugs they have. Look on the web for any Windows 7 forums and see if they have a clue.

Joe my post above yours (this post) was not in answer to your previous post but an answer to Laddie. Killing the process is more effective than killing the application.
If you do not have the same problem as the thread main post, please do not add a totally different problem to the thread. All that does is confuse everything.

Consider this - you are jumping from 4.06 to 4.11. Take time to read all the upgraded, added and fixed items for 4.07, 4.08, 4.09, 4.10, and 4.11. I believe you will find that Hoster has grown in capabilities enormously. In order for it to do this, requires much more CPU processing time and speed as well additional RAM to operate. This also is more taxing on the power supply.
The big differences between Internal and External drives is that Externals (like your Plextor) have there own power source and the controllers on the drives regulate the transfer rate down to USB speed. In other words the Internals tend to read and transfer the data faster because they are on faster buss. This can cause the other processes to have to slowdown while this is happening.

Thank you Dale I'll move this question to another thread, Sorry Laddie wasn't trying to hijack you're thread, I guess I got rapped up in the program not reponding part and task manager which lead on to another issue not relevent to you're thread.

Thanks
Joe...
