Converting Zip files
 

Okay it'd been almost a year since I needed help but I'm back asking for more.
I have purchased a guy's entire karaoke setup because he was getting out of the business. I have all the CD's and his entire collection is on a 1Tb WD ext HHD. My problem is he used ROXBOX or something and all the files on the ext hd are in zip files. There are over 123,000 zip files on the hd. How do I convert them to kma files so I can use them with MTU? How much hd space will I need and will I need another ext hd?

What do they have in the file name? In other words is the diskID, track number, Title and Artist in the file name?
You said you have the CDs and that he used Roxbox to rip them. Are these SCDG, Cdgs, or a combination?
The zip files can be imported into Hoster directly as long as the information is available be able to import correctly. Hoster will unzip them and import them as MP3+G. This may increase the amount of space required slightly but should not be much bigger. How much space does all of them on the drive take?

Ok...They have the Title, Aritst, Brand and Disc ID...just opened one and looked.
Under a Folder where all the songs are it shows 438gb...They seem to be CDGs..Chartbusters etc are listed...You have several folders and sub folders to go thru to get to the actual song. I have a 750 gig WD HD that I could put them in I guess?...Not sure how to point Hoster to put them there and can I select the main folder and include subfolders to gat to all of them?I hope I anserwed all your questions...Thanks

You can include sub-folders for the import. I am just not sure because of the varying brands and disk-ids. I had problems with this a while back but it may have been fixed.
At the top right side of the Import from Hard Drive window has a button called "Save To". Click this and then you can tell Hoster where to save the KMA files.

Now to be sure of a couple of things...
I created a file on the External K: drive called songs...then I imported a couple of zip files for test purposes. It did not add the sub folders as I had to add each cdg that was listed manually...
Now I have 50 files in the K:songs folder...my laptop has all my other files in C:\MTU\songs....can I make hoster just look in K:songs or will it look on both the C: drive and K: drive or do they all need to be on the same drive in the same folder? ....I want to run a test before I import them all wrong....
I can't find how to change it for certain....I think I know but am not sure...
I bet you just hate us dummies (I do feel a little ignorant) ....

Maybe this is easier......
Been thinking (hard for me to do) and the end result now is that I want all my kma files on an external drive.
I want to move the one I have on my hd on my laptop and convert all the zip files and have them all in one place on my ext HD....
Hoster will stay on my laptop but all the songs will be on the external drive.
That way I can put Hoster on another laptop I have for a backup with all the songs being common to both.
Am I correct in my thinking?

The Import will only put the files in the folder you designate for it. Hoster will import from sub-folders but does not recreate the sub-folders with the KMA files separated. To do that you would have to create those folders yourself and then import only from that original folder.
The biggest problem with that would be that every sub-folder you created would have to be listed in the Rebuild Database to be able to find all the files, since that part of Hoster does not look beyond the exact folders listed. It would be better to all of the new KMA files in only a couple folders. One folder may be to big for ease of use and for Windows comfort.

The Tools/Songs Database utility is where you need to look to change what folders are included in the database for Hoster. Hoster can use multiple locations to add songs to the database listing. Which means you can keep what you have on the C: drive and also have what is on the K: drive as well. It is your choice whether to move those from C: to K:. Most people prefer to keep theirs all on one drive as it makes it easier to transfer (external drive) to another computer if something happens. It also makes it easier to make a back-up copy, so a drive failure won't be disaster.

I am sitting here trying to imagine the number of discs you got from this guy. If the average disc holds 15 songs that would be 8,200 discs that you got from him if they are all CDG discs and no SCDG. Are you sure you got a disc for everyone of those songs in the zip files?
If you don't mind my asking how much did you have to pay for all of these?
How many songs did you already have before getting this?
Also just to make sure we are on the same page what version of Hoster are you using?

It just looks like I have some work to do...I will put everything on the K: drive to simplify everything. I think I can figure it out now..... I got all of this from a guy in his 60's and there are files and boxes of discs he and a friend of his had....There are some CDG & some SCDG discs. Have no clue as to how many of each yet. I feel pretty sure all the discs are there.I traded him a used car I had and there was some other stuff I swapped him. I do not get paid to do shows and this is all for fun. I had about 7,000 songs already. I am also still running 4.03 since my laptop could not be upgraded with a better video card.

i have a friend that uses roxbox,and they uses zip files, she called me a while back and she asked me if Hoster kma files can be converted to zip files..i told her i am not sure , but i don't think kma files can be converted to zip files..

Are her KMA files legal? If so then tell her yes they can be converted with Songverter. If they are not then I would tell her no. No point in promoting piracy.:)

yes all her kma files are legal, don't know after she switched to roxbox,
