4.10 Remove Silence

The "remove silence" works great but it took about 9 hours to scan nearly 5000 songs to use this feature. I didn't count on having to do this but the end result is fantastic and in my opinion this one feature is the best to come as of yet. Thanks MTU!:g:g:g

The time it takes varies from computer to computer. Those with faster computers and more memory went through at roughly 1 song per second where some of us with slower/older machines it took a lot longer. I think mine takes roughly 15 - 20 seconds per song. Yours for that many took 6.5 seconds per song. Not really a bad average time.

This feature is awesome. I did not realize the difference it would make when I am testing stuff, but now I don't want to go back to the normal CDG Song, when testing.

The sytems I have tested with are as follows

3.2GHz Pentium 4 Desktop system with 2GB Ram - 2-3 Seconds per song
1.83GHz Core2Duo Laptop 2GB Ram - 6-8 Seconds per song
1.6Ghz Atom in MSI Wind Netbook 2GB Ram - 2-3 Seconds per song.

So it really makes a world of difference what is on the computer and running at the time as this process takes a lot of compute power.

downloaded 4.10 went to remove silence feature... 16201 songs to process :f but once done should be sweet! I just cant wait to try it out tomorrow when its finished the processing.

quick question when i add new songs it wont need to go through all the tracks already processed will it? it will only do the new ones wont it?

This is great. I started running mine and it was going to take over two days. I had a gig that evening and had to cancel it. Slow system..... I am realizing that I might need to get a new laptop soon.

I have two weeks before my next gig. I have time to run it now.

Great job on Hoster MTU!!!!!!!

If you can identify what is causing the crash and post it here, we'll all try to duplicate the problem. However, it may be the computer isn't powerful enough.

Please post your computer specs so we can understand what you have: Windows type and SR#, processor type and speed, and System RAM, Video RAM (is it shared system RAM or dedicated?).

ALSO... download Hoster 4.11 that we just finished uploading. It's at the Download Page.

You can see the changes from 4.10 at the Hoster Versions Upgrade Page.

There are many un-documented upgrades that we did to prior code as we found any memory leaks, old bugs no one had ever "directly" reported (often it's not clear why a crash happens), etc. We have really beat on 4.11 so I hope it is stable.

If there are any problems reported we can duplicate, we'll fix them ASAP.

Remove Silence and the new Audio Fades take a LOT of compute power to perform live.

The manual has been massively rewritten, and a new INDEX added at the end. If you use the new "clickable images" (with image maps) above the text Table of Contents, you can click directly on any item and go directly to its manual topic. :c

Tis' music to our ears! :g

There was a "crash bug" in 4.10 that I suspect was triggering after about 30-40 seconds AFTER you stopped playing. It would happen if the Intermission View of the Show Display screen was DISABLED (i.e. the "Always On" checkbox was not clicked). We had added code to auto-update the TIME for each singer in the Singers Names Display, while in Intermission View and a song in the Playlist is not playing. When the code went to increment the TIME fields for each displayed singer in the SND window, the TIME fields to update where shut down. The program would crash. :e :s

Forgive me for even suggesting your computer may not have been powerful enough. However, Remove Silence does add a lot more compute power, especially when we are drawing the Title page at an accelerated rate. That... takes many times the CPU power than normal "rendering" of the graphic Title page.

I'm exceedingly glad to hear everything is running fine now. You are a prime example User who we wrote Remove Silence for. We too have been blown away by the major change in how shows sound now. :c

BTW: Can you translate your British "chuffed" meaning in English on this side of the Pond? :?

I'd like to use this as a Testimonial on Hoster 4.11 if that's OK with you. Thus, I need a parenthetical (definition) after it so others will understand your true excitement meaning! :g

i'm thinking about doing the remove silence feature, but i read that doing this takes a lot of 'puter power, i'm just not clear about if it's just the process of removing the silence that takes a lot of power, or running hoster with the silence removed that will used a lot of power? i have about 37-40k to do, which will take me days to complete, tried a few it took 6-8 sec.ea.

ddouglass October 11th, 2009 03:54 PM

The power required in this case is the function of determining the Remove Silence points. In other words when you process them which as you said may take a couple days to do.
Playing in Hoster with the Remove Silence activated doesn't take more power to use. The points are stored in the database and in the KMA files which Hoster uses to determine where to start and end.
The thing that takes a lot of computing power during play is if you use the WMP visualizations for Audio files either in the Playlist or in the Background Audio. In our testing these would drive the processor percentage for Hoster up 40 - 50% over normal running. This may be more than some computers can handle.

so if understood you right it will only take a lot of power if i was to use wmp visualization for audio files either for playlist or BA ? (visualization means those effects that's shows up on the screen when playing audio?) if i'm wrong please correct me..so if i dont use any of that i should be fine, i just use plain audio on my BA..the only thing that stopping me to use this feature was the time it takes to process all the songs i have:r
