lost song database

I am working on a friends laptop. She lost all the songs in her database. The songs are all still on her hard drive but when i try to rebuild the database nothing is added.

She is running 3.321 on a vista machine. Never had any problems before.

Looking for help!

try merging, instead of rebuild

Hey Bob,
Is she getting any kind of error message? Has she added a hard drive or changed the drive letter on the drive that holds her KMA files?

When she rebuils her database, tell here to be sure that the Songs Database Destination Folder is where he KMA files are located.

No error codes. When I try to rebuild or merge it runs thru the files (they are on an external drive) and says no files added. The destination folder is showing C:/MTU/Hooster. The external drive is G and has not changed.

when you say it ran through the file, you meant the progress bar went thru all the songs, when you do a search, do you get an error or no songs found in database?, if it was the later, make sure all the headers are green on the search window except for the mux or duets..

ddouglass August 26th, 2009 09:32 PM

Jim the destination folder for the songs.mdb file is not changable.
Is the count that the rebuild starts out with correct?
Billy is probably right in that the problem is in the search and not the database.

bob schroyer August 26th, 2009 09:42 PM

The count when the rebuild begins is correct. It runs thru all the songs on the hard drive but when its done it has not added any songs. There are no songs in the data base now. The songs are on the HD and the rebuild runs thru them but does not add them. I did some updates on her comp before this problem started and have since done a system restore back to before all the updates were done. Still have the same problem.

ddouglass August 26th, 2009 09:56 PM

Did you check the Search to make sure the Mux and Duet are turned off?
Try setting it so only the Artist is green and then enter a part of a known artist name to search.
I don't think there is any thing wrong with the database, but that it is the search settings.

did you try searching for songs, have you looked at the search window if the headers are green..the song database will not add anything if you didnt ( import )add any files...like i said opened up your search window, make sure all the headers are green except for the duet & mux...

bob schroyer August 26th, 2009 10:09 PM

The search headers are correct. The problem is there are no songs in my data base to search. When I try to rebuild or merge the data base nothing is added even though there are files on the HD. There are currently zero songs showing in the Hooster program.

why dont you c & p some kma files directly to your c: drive then try and rebuild.

ddouglass August 26th, 2009 10:14 PM

Bob do you have Access? If so open the Songs.mdb database and check the Songs table to see if it is empty.
Try using the Edit Songs tool and see if it also shows no songs when you search.

billyo August 26th, 2009 10:17 PM

i'm sorry i thought you said the count was correct when you did the rebuilt,

I got confused. It even says that it can't be moved. :t I just wanted to make sure she was having Hoster look in the correct folder for her KMA files.

I don't run Vista but does anybody think that Vista has made it where her KMA files can't be seen by Hoster? I seem to remember that this has been an issue in the past.

Has she done all of the Windows Vista updates? Is her UAC turned on or off?

Just trying to help!

But the destination is not for the KMA files, but for the database.
